विवेकचूडामणि: विवेक और आत्म-ज्ञान
जन्माप्ययव्याधिजरादिदुःखप्रवाहपातं जनयत्यमुष्य ॥ १४६॥
● हिन्दी: यह अनात्मा के साथ तादात्म्य (अहंकार) रूपी बंधन अज्ञान मूलक है। यह स्वाभाविक, अनादि और अनंत कहा गया है। यही जीव के लिए जन्म, मृत्यु, रोग और बुढ़ापा आदि दुखों की धारा उत्पन्न करता है।
● English: This bondage of identification with the non-Self is rooted in ignorance. It is said to be natural, beginningless, and endless (till realization). It causes the continuous flow of miseries like birth, death, disease, and old age.
विवेकविज्ञानमहासिना विना धातुः प्रसादेन शितेन मञ्जुना ॥ १४७॥
● हिन्दी: यह बंधन न अस्त्रों से, न शस्त्रों से, न वायु से, न अग्नि से और न ही करोड़ों कर्मों से काटा जा सकता है। इसे केवल ईश्वर की कृपा से प्राप्त, विवेक-ज्ञान रूपी तीक्ष्ण और सुंदर तलवार से ही काटा जा सकता है।
● English: Neither by weapons nor by wind, nor by fire, nor by millions of acts can this bondage be destroyed. It can only be severed by the sharp and beautiful sword of discriminative knowledge (Viveka), attained through the grace of God.
विशुद्धबुद्धेः परमात्मवेदनं तेनैव संसारसमूलनाशः ॥ १४८॥
● हिन्दी: श्रुतियों (वेदों) के प्रमाण में अटूट विश्वास रखने वाले की अपने धर्म में निष्ठा होती है, उसी से चित्त की शुद्धि होती है। शुद्ध बुद्धि होने पर परमात्मा का अनुभव होता है और तभी संसार का समूल नाश होता है।
● English: Devotion to one's own duty for those who accept the authority of the Vedas leads to the purification of the mind. To the pure-minded comes the realization of the Supreme Self, and by that alone is Samsara destroyed root and branch.
निजशक्तिसमुत्पन्नैः शैवालपटलैरिवाम्बु वापीस्थम् ॥ १४९॥
● हिन्दी: अन्नमय आदि पाँचों कोशों से ढका हुआ आत्मा प्रकाशित नहीं होता, ठीक वैसे ही जैसे अपनी ही शक्ति से उत्पन्न हुई काई (शैवाल) के परतों से बावड़ी का जल ढका रहता है।
● English: Covered by the five sheaths like the Annamaya (physical body), the Self does not shine, just as the water in a tank remains hidden by a collection of moss produced by its own power.
तृष्णासन्तापहरं सद्यः सौख्यप्रदं परं पुंसः ॥ १५०॥
● हिन्दी: उस काई को हटा देने पर शुद्ध जल स्पष्ट दिखाई देने लगता है, जो प्यास और संताप को दूर करने वाला तथा तुरंत परम सुख देने वाला होता है। (वैसे ही अज्ञान हटने पर आत्म-सुख मिलता है)।
● English: On the removal of that moss, the pure water becomes clearly visible, which at once quenches thirst, removes all distress, and gives supreme happiness to man.
