तर्क: गंधर्व विवाह पद्धति, उसका प्रेमालाप और औपचारिक अनुष्ठान
वशिष्ठ ने आगे कहा :—
1. [ श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
ततः कतिपयेष्वेव दिवसेषु गतेषु सा ।
इदं प्रोवाच भर्तारं कुम्भरूपधरा सती ॥ १ ॥
śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca |
tataḥ katipayeṣveva divaseṣu gateṣu sā |
idaṃ provāca bhartāraṃ kumbharūpadharā satī || 1 ||
Vasishtha resumed:—After the lapse of some days in this manner, Chudala thus bespoke to her husband, in her guise of the pretended Brahman boy. ]
इस प्रकार कुछ दिनों के बीत जाने के बाद, चुडाला ने अपने पति से, ब्राह्मण बालक (या कुंभ ) के रूप में, इस प्रकार कहा।
2. [ राजन्राजीवपत्राक्ष ममेदं वचनं श्रृणु ।
निशायां प्रत्यहं तावत्स्थित एवाहमङ्गना ॥ २ ॥
rājanrājīvapatrākṣa mamedaṃ vacanaṃ śrṛṇu |niśāyāṃ pratyahaṃ tāvatsthita evāhamaṅganā || 2 ||
Hear me, O lotus eyed prince, she said, what I tell you in good earnest; that since I am obliged to become a woman every night, and continue to be so for ever more. ]
हे कमल नेत्रों वाले राजकुमार, मेरी बात सुनो, उसने कहा, मैं तुम्हें पूरी गंभीरता से जो बता रही हूँ; कि मुझे हर रात स्त्री बनना पड़ता है, और हमेशा के लिए ऐसा ही रहना पड़ता है।
3. [ तदिच्छाम्यङ्गनाधर्मं निपुणीकर्तुमीदृशम् ।
I wish to fulfill the part of my womanhood, by joining myself to a husband by legal marriage for all that time. ]
भर्त्रे कस्मैचिदात्मानं विवाहेन ददाम्यहम् ॥ ३ ॥
tadicchāmyaṅganādharmaṃ nipuṇīkartumīdṛśam |
bhartre kasmaicidātmānaṃ vivāhena dadāmyaham || 3 ||
मैं अपने स्त्रीत्व के कर्तव्य को पूरा करना चाहती हूँ, और इस प्रकार कानूनी विवाह द्वारा अपने पति से विवाह करके उस पूरे समय के लिए उनके साथ रहना चाहती हूँ।
4. [ तद्भवानेव मे भर्ता रोचते भुवनत्रये ।
I want to taste the pleasure of conjugal union, with a dear friend, who is of his own accord so very friendly to me, and without any endeavour on my part: so I hope you will interpose no difficulty in my way.]
गृहाण मां विवाहेन भार्यात्वे निशि सर्वदा ॥ ४ ॥
tadbhavāneva me bhartā rocate bhuvanatraye |gṛhāṇa māṃ vivāhena bhāryātve niśi sarvadā || 4 ||
मैं अपने प्रिय मित्र के साथ वैवाहिक मिलन का सुख भोगना चाहता/चाहती हूँ, जो स्वेच्छा से और बिना किसी प्रयास के मेरे प्रति बहुत मित्रवत है: इसलिए मुझे आशा है कि आप मेरे मार्ग में कोई बाधा नहीं डालेंगे।
5. [ अयत्नोपनतं साधो प्रियेण सुहृदा सह ।
So I choose you sir, as my husband, of all others in the three worlds: therefore be pleased to accept me for your wife every night. ]
स्त्रीसुखं भोक्तुमिच्छामि मा मे विघ्नकरो भव ॥ ५ ॥
ayatnopanataṃ sādho priyeṇa suhṛdā saha |
strīsukhaṃ bhoktumicchāmi mā me vighnakaro bhava || 5 ||
इसलिए मैं तीनों लोकों में से आपको अपना पति चुनती हूँ, हे प्रभु! अतः कृपया मुझे हर रात अपनी पत्नी के रूप में स्वीकार करें।
6. [ क्रमप्रवृत्तमासृष्टेः सुखं साध्यं मनोरमम् ।
The delightsome pleasure of conjugal union, has come down to us ever since the commencement of creation; and therefore our obedience to the ordinance of nature, can entail no guilt on our part.]
प्रकृतं कुर्वतः कार्यं दोषः क इव जायते ॥ ६ ॥
kramapravṛttamāsṛṣṭeḥ sukhaṃ sādhyaṃ manoramam | prakṛtaṃ kurvataḥ kāryaṃ doṣaḥ ka iva jāyate || 6 ||
वैवाहिक मिलन का आनंददायक सुख सृष्टि की शुरुआत से ही हमें प्राप्त है; इसलिए प्रकृति के विधान का पालन करने में हमारा कोई दोष नहीं है।
7. [ इच्छानिच्छे फले त्यक्त्वा समन्तात्सर्ववस्तुषु ।
I desire this that we may do as we like, without desiring or disliking anything; and be far from expecting the consequence of what we like or dislike. ]
वयं न सेच्छा नानिच्छाः कुर्मस्तेनेदमीप्सितम् ॥ ७ ॥
icchānicche phale tyaktvā samantātsarvavastuṣu |
vayaṃ na secchā nānicchāḥ kurmastenedamīpsitam || 7 ||
मैं यह चाहता हूँ कि हम बिना किसी इच्छा या नापसंद के अपनी इच्छानुसार कार्य करें; और अपनी पसंद या नापसंद के परिणाम की अपेक्षा न करें।
सिखिद्वाज ने उत्तर दिया :—
8. [ शिखिध्वज उवाच ।
Sikhidvaja answered said:—I see friend, neither any good nor evil, of accepting your proposal; so you are at liberty to do as you like.]
कृतेनानेन कार्येण न शुभं नाशुभं सखे ।
पश्यामि तन्महाबुद्धे यथेच्छसि तथा कुरु ॥ ८ ॥
śikhidhvaja uvāca |
kṛtenānena kāryeṇa na śubhaṃ nāśubhaṃ sakhe |paśyāmi tanmahābuddhe yathecchasi tathā kuru || 8 ||
मित्र, मुझे लगता है कि आपके प्रस्ताव को स्वीकार करने में कोई भला या बुराई नहीं है; इसलिए आप अपनी इच्छानुसार करने के लिए स्वतंत्र हैं।
9. [ समतां संप्रयातेन चेतसेदं जगत्त्रयम् ।
Being possessed of the indifference of my mind, at every thing in the world; I see everything in the same and in an equal light: so I let you have your option as you may like.]
स्वरूपमेव पश्यामि यथेच्छसि तदाचर ॥ ९ ॥
samatāṃ saṃprayātena cetasedaṃ jagattrayam |
svarūpameva paśyāmi yathecchasi tadācara || 9 ||
मेरे मन में संसार की हर चीज के प्रति उदासीनता है; मैं हर चीज को एक समान और समतुल्य दृष्टि से देखता हूँ: इसलिए मैं आपको अपनी पसंद के अनुसार चुनाव करने देता हूँ।
कुंभ ने उत्तर दिया :—
10. [ कुम्भ उवाच ।
यद्येवं तन्महीपाल लग्नमद्यैव शोभनम् ।
राकेयं श्रावणस्यास्य ह्यः सर्वं गणितं मया ॥ १० ॥
kumbha uvāca |
yadyevaṃ tanmahīpāla lagnamadyaiva śobhanam | rākeyaṃ śrāvaṇasyāsya hyaḥ sarvaṃ gaṇitaṃ mayā || 10 ||
यदि ऐसा है, तो मैं कहता हूँ कि विवाह समारोह मनाने के लिए यह दिन बहुत ही शुभ है; यह श्रावण की पूर्णिमा है , और मेरी सर्वोत्तम गणना के अनुसार सभी शुभ नक्षत्र हैं।
11. [ रात्रावद्योदिते चन्द्रे परिपूर्णकलामले ।
On this day of the full moon, our marriage may take place both in the day as well as night-time in the Gandharva form.]
जन्यत्रो नौ महाबाहो द्वयोरेव भविष्यति ॥ ११ ॥
rātrāvadyodite candre paripūrṇakalāmale |
janyatro nau mahābāho dvayoreva bhaviṣyati || 11 ||
पूर्णिमा के इस दिन, हमारा विवाह दिन और रात दोनों समय गंधर्व रूप में (आपसी इच्छा और सहमति से) हो सकता है।
12. [ महेन्द्राद्रिशिरःश्रृङ्गसानावद्य मनोरमे ।
It will be celebrated either on the summit of the Mahendra mountain, or on the delightful table-land there abouts; or in the grotto of some mineral mine, and in the light of the shining gems and mineral ores in the mountain; ]
रत्नदीपप्रकाशाढ्ये मणिकन्दरमन्दिरे ॥ १२ ॥
mahendrādriśiraḥśrṛṅgasānāvadya manorame |ratnadīpaprakāśāḍhye maṇikandaramandire || 12 ||
यह उत्सव या तो महेंद्र पर्वत की चोटी पर, या उसके आसपास के रमणीय पठार पर; या किसी खनिज खान की गुफा में, और पर्वत में चमकते रत्नों और खनिज अयस्कों के प्रकाश में मनाया जाएगा; (जो उत्सव में दीपक और मोमबत्ती की रोशनी का काम करेंगे)।
13. [ पुष्पभारानतोत्तुङ्गवृक्षराजिविराजिते ।
The rows of stately trees all around, will shed their flowers at the nuptial ceremony;and the twining creepers on them, will represent the dance of nanch girls by their tremulous shaking. ]
वनपुष्पलतालास्यनारीनृत्यमनोहरे ॥ १३ ॥
puṣpabhārānatottuṅgavṛkṣarājivirājite |
vanapuṣpalatālāsyanārīnṛtyamanohare || 13 ||
चारों ओर भव्य वृक्षों की कतारें विवाह समारोह में अपने फूल बिखेरेंगी; और उन पर लिपटी लताएँ अपने कंपकंपी भरे कंपन से नाचती हुई कन्याओं के नृत्य का प्रतिनिधित्व करेंगी । (नृत्य और संगीत विवाह समारोह के आवश्यक अंग हैं)।
14. [ निशि व्योमगतास्तारा भर्त्रा पूर्णेन्दुना सह ।
आवयोः परिपश्यन्तु कर्णान्तायतलोचन ॥ १४ ॥
niśi vyomagatāstārā bhartrā pūrṇendunā saha |āvayoḥ paripaśyantu karṇāntāyatalocana || 14 ||
Let the bright luminary of the night, accompanied by his consort train of shining stars, witness our marriage from the high sky with their wide open and glaring eyes.]
रात्रि के प्रकाशमान प्रकाशमान, अपने चमकते तारों के समूह के साथ, ऊंचे आकाश से अपनी खुली और चकाचौंध भरी आँखों से हमारे विवाह के साक्षी बनें।
15. [ उत्तिष्ठात्मविवाहार्थं कुर्वः काननकोटरात् ।
Rise, O prince, for your marriage;and let us both hie to cull the forest flowers, and prepare the sandal paste and collect the scattered gems, in order to deck our nuptial seats therewith. ]
राजेश्चन्दनपुष्पादिसंभारं रत्नसंयुतम् ॥ १५ ॥
uttiṣṭhātmavivāhārthaṃ kurvaḥ kānanakoṭarāt |
rājeścandanapuṣpādisaṃbhāraṃ ratnasaṃyutam || 15 ||
हे राजकुमार, अपने विवाह के लिए उठो; और चलो हम दोनों जंगल के फूल चुनने, चंदन का लेप तैयार करने और बिखरे हुए रत्नों को इकट्ठा करने चलें, ताकि हम अपने विवाह के आसनों को उनसे सजा सकें।
16. [ इत्युक्त्वा कुम्भ उत्थाय सह तेन महीभृता ।
Saying so, they both rose together, and culled the flowers and collected the gems.]
कुसुमावचयं चक्रे तथा रत्नादिसंचयम् ॥ १६ ॥
ityuktvā kumbha utthāya saha tena mahībhṛtā |kusumāvacayaṃ cakre tathā ratnādisaṃcayam || 16 ||
ऐसा कहकर वे दोनों एक साथ उठे और फूल छांटे तथा रत्न एकत्र किए।
17. [ ततो मुहूर्तमात्रेण रत्नसानौ समे शुभे ।
समालम्भनपुष्पाणां ताभ्यां वै राशयः कृताः ॥ १७ ॥
tato muhūrtamātreṇa ratnasānau same śubhe |samālambhanapuṣpāṇāṃ tābhyāṃ vai rāśayaḥ kṛtāḥ || 17 ||
Then in a short time, they repaired to the gemming steppe, and heaped it with flowers of various kinds. ]
फिर थोड़े समय में वे फूलों से भरे मैदान में गए और उसे तरह-तरह के फूलों से भर दिया।
18. [ हाराम्बरमणीन्द्रादिराशयस्त्वपरेऽजिरे ।
सौभाग्यस्येव कामेन कोशाः कालेन संभृताः ॥ १८ ॥
hārāmbaramaṇīndrādirāśayastvapare'jire |
saubhāgyasyeva kāmena kośāḥ kālena saṃbhṛtāḥ || 18 ||
They had their marriage vests and necklaces ready on the spot, and the God of love helped with the supply of every thing required on the occasion. ]
उनके विवाह वस्त्र और हार मौके पर ही तैयार थे, और प्रेम के देवता ने इस अवसर पर आवश्यक हर चीज की आपूर्ति में सहायता की।
19. [ तथा जन्यत्रसंभारं कृत्वा काञ्चनकन्दरे ।
Having thus prepared the paraphernalia of their nuptials, and stored them in a golden grotto of the mountain, they both repaired to the sacred stream of the heavenly Ganges Mandakini, for making their holy ablutions therein.]
ययतुस्तौ महामित्रे स्नातुं मन्दाकिनीं नदीम् ॥ १९ ॥
tathā janyatrasaṃbhāraṃ kṛtvā kāñcanakandare |
yayatustau mahāmitre snātuṃ mandākinīṃ nadīm || 19 ||
इस प्रकार विवाह की सामग्री तैयार करके और उसे पर्वत की एक सुनहरी गुफा में संग्रहित करके, वे दोनों दिव्य गंगा मंदाकिनी की पवित्र धारा में स्नान करने के लिए गए।
20. [ तत्रैनं स्नापयामास महाराजं महादरात् ।
गजकुम्भोपमस्कन्धं कुम्भो मङ्गलपूर्वकम् ॥ २० ॥
tatrainaṃ snāpayāmāsa mahārājaṃ mahādarāt |gajakumbhopamaskandhaṃ kumbho maṅgalapūrvakam || 20 ||
Here Kumbha served as the priest, to lave the holy water profusely on the lofty head and elevated shoulders of the prince; as the elephantine clouds of Indra, pour the rain water in plenteous showers, on the towering tops and height of hills. ]
यहाँ कुंभ पुरोहित के रूप में राजकुमार के ऊंचे सिर और कंधों पर भरपूर पवित्र जल छिड़कते थे; जैसे इंद्र के हाथीनुमा बादल पहाड़ियों की ऊँची चोटियों और ऊँचाइयों पर प्रचुर मात्रा में वर्षा करते हैं।
21. [ भविष्यद्दयितारूपां भविष्यद्दयितोऽङ्गनाम् ।
So also did the prince act the part of the ministering prince, and washed the body of his beloved princess now in the form of Kumbha. Thus did the two friends anoint and absterge by turns, the persons of their quondam and future consorts.]
चूडालां स्नापयामास कुम्भरूपधरां प्रियाम् ॥ २१ ॥
bhaviṣyaddayitārūpāṃ bhaviṣyaddayito'ṅganām |
cūḍālāṃ snāpayāmāsa kumbharūpadharāṃ priyām || 21 ||
इस प्रकार राजकुमार ने भी सेवक राजकुमार की भूमिका निभाई और कुंभ रूप में आसीन अपनी प्रिय राजकुमारी के शरीर को स्नान कराया। इस प्रकार दोनों मित्रों ने बारी-बारी से अपनी पूर्व और भावी पत्नियों का अभिषेक और स्नान कराया।
22. [ पूजयामासतुः स्नातौ तत्र देवपितृन्मुनीन् ।
यथा क्रियाफलेऽनिच्छौ क्रियात्यागे तथैव तौ ॥ २२ ॥
pūjayāmāsatuḥ snātau tatra devapitṛnmunīn |yathā kriyāphale'nicchau kriyātyāge tathaiva tau || 22 ||
Bathed and purified, they adored the gods, the munis and the manes of their ancestors, for the sake of their honour, and without any desire of getting any good or gain from them: for they well knew that they could benefit nothing their service, as the deities, the deified spirits and the divine sages. ]
स्नान और शुद्धि करके, उन्होंने अपने पूर्वजों के देवताओं, मुनियों और पितरों की आराधना की, केवल अपने सम्मान के लिए, और उनसे किसी प्रकार का लाभ या लाभ प्राप्त करने की इच्छा के बिना; क्योंकि वे भली-भांति जानते थे कि उनकी सेवा से उन्हें कोई लाभ नहीं होगा, ठीक वैसे ही जैसे देवताओं, देवत्वप्राप्त आत्माओं और दिव्य ऋषियों को होता है।
23. [ नित्यज्ञानरसातृप्तौ व्यवस्थायां जगत्स्थितेः ।
चक्राते भोजनं भव्यं तावन्योन्यसमीहितम् ॥ २३ ॥
nityajñānarasātṛptau vyavasthāyāṃ jagatsthiteḥ |cakrāte bhojanaṃ bhavyaṃ tāvanyonyasamīhitam || 23 ||
They took their frugal and repast, as their nature and the course of the world required; and seasoned with the nectarine juice of their good and refined intelligence. ]
उन्होंने अपनी प्रकृति और संसार के नियमानुसार संयमित भोजन किया; और अपनी अच्छी और परिष्कृत बुद्धि के अमृतमय रस से उसे परिपूर्ण किया।
24. [ कल्पवृक्षदुकूलानि परिधाय सितानि तौ ।
फलानि भुक्त्वा जन्यत्रस्थानमाययतुः क्रमात् ॥ २४ ॥
kalpavṛkṣadukūlāni paridhāya sitāni tau |
phalāni bhuktvā janyatrasthānamāyayatuḥ kramāt || 24 ||
They wore the whitish barks of Kalpa trees, as their clean marriage raiments, and ate its fruits as their wedding cakes; then they repaired to the altar for their nuptial ceremony.]
उन्होंने कल्प वृक्षों की सफेद छाल को अपने स्वच्छ विवाह वस्त्रों के रूप में धारण किया और उसके फलों को अपने विवाह भोज के रूप में खाया; फिर वे अपने विवाह समारोह के लिए वेदी पर गए।
25. [ एतावताथ कालेन तयोर्जन्यत्रसोत्कयोः ।
प्रियं कर्तुमिवास्ताद्रिं द्रागित्येवाविशद्रविः ॥ २५ ॥
etāvatātha kālena tayorjanyatrasotkayoḥ |
priyaṃ kartumivāstādriṃ drāgityevāviśadraviḥ || 25 ||
At this time the sun descended below his setting mountain, as if to consummate their conjugal union in secret. ]
इस समय सूर्य अपने अस्त होते पर्वत के नीचे उतर गया, मानो गुप्त रूप से उनके वैवाहिक मिलन को पूरा करने के लिए।
26. [ अथ संध्याक्रमे वृत्ते कृते जप्याघमर्षणे ।
विवाहदर्शनायैव ताराजाले खमागते ॥ २६ ॥
atha saṃdhyākrame vṛtte kṛte japyāghamarṣaṇe |vivāhadarśanāyaiva tārājāle khamāgate || 26 ||
As it now became dark and dusk they discharged their evening service and offered their prayers; and groups of stars now appeared on the plain of the firmament, to witness their union in marriage. ]
जैसे ही अंधेरा छाने लगा, उन्होंने अपनी संध्याकालीन सेवा संपन्न की और प्रार्थना की; और आकाश में तारों के समूह प्रकट हुए, मानो उनके विवाह के बंधन के साक्षी हों।
27. [ मिथुनैकसखीयामा कुमुदोत्करहासिनी ।
प्रालेयजालप्रकरं विकिरन्ती समाययौ ॥ २७ ॥
mithunaikasakhīyāmā kumudotkarahāsinī |
prāleyajālaprakaraṃ vikirantī samāyayau || 27 ||
Then came the sable night the only friend of the happy pair, spreading the veil of darkness over the face of nature, and smiling with the blushing of snow white lotuses and lilies of the valley. ]
फिर काली रात आई, जो उस सुखी जोड़े की इकलौती मित्र थी, जिसने प्रकृति के चेहरे पर अंधकार का पर्दा फैला दिया और बर्फ जैसे सफेद कमलों और घाटी की लिली के लाल होने से मुस्कुरा उठी।
28. [ रत्नदीपान्बहून्सानौ कुम्भः सम्यगयोजयत् ।
ज्योतींषीन्द्वर्कयुक्तानि पद्मोद्भव इवाम्बरे ॥ २८ ॥
ratnadīpānbahūnsānau kumbhaḥ samyagayojayat |jyotīṃṣīndvarkayuktāni padmodbhava ivāmbare || 28 ||
Kumbha collected the rich stones, and placed those gemming on the table land of the mountain, while Brahma lighted his two lamps of the sun and moon together in the heavens. ]
कुंभ ने बहुमूल्य पत्थरों को एकत्र किया और उन्हें पर्वत की समतल भूमि पर रत्नों की तरह रखा, जबकि ब्रह्मा ने आकाश में सूर्य और चंद्रमा के अपने दो दीपक एक साथ प्रज्वलित किए।
29. [ भूषयामास राजानं स्त्रीत्वं गच्छन्निशागमे ।
चन्दनागुरुकर्पूरपूरैर्मृगजकुङ्कुमैः ॥ २९ ॥
bhūṣayāmāsa rājānaṃ strītvaṃ gacchanniśāgame |
candanāgurukarpūrapūrairmṛgajakuṅkumaiḥ || 29 ||
Being then changed to the female form, Kumbha anointed the prince with the fragrant sandal paste, agallochum, camphor powder and pulverised musk. ]
फिर स्त्री रूप धारण करके कुंभा ने राजकुमार को सुगंधित चंदन का लेप, अगरलोचम, कपूर का पाउडर और पिसी हुई कस्तूरी से अभिषेक किया।
30. [ हारकेयूरकटकैस्तथा कल्पलतांशुकैः ।
स्रगुद्दामावतंसैश्च माल्यैश्च विविधोचितैः ॥ ३० ॥
hārakeyūrakaṭakaistathā kalpalatāṃśukaiḥ |sraguddāmāvataṃsaiśca mālyaiśca vividhocitaiḥ || 30 ||
She adorned his person with strings, bracelets and wristlets of flowers, and dressed in a robe of the thin bark of Kalpa tree. ]
उसने उसके शरीर को फूलों की मालाओं, कंगनों और कलाई के आभूषणों से सजाया और उसे कल्प वृक्ष की पतली छाल से बने वस्त्र पहनाए।
31. [ तथा कल्पलतागुच्छैर्मन्दारैः पारिजातकैः ।
His body was also decorated with the filaments of Kalpa plant, and clusters of parijata flowers and with many other flowers and gems from his head to foot. ]
संतानैर्बहुरत्नैश्च मौलिना चेन्दुरूपिणा ॥ ३१ ॥
tathā kalpalatāgucchairmandāraiḥ pārijātakaiḥ |saṃtānairbahuratnaiśca maulinā cendurūpiṇā || 31 ||
उनका शरीर भी कल्प पौधे के तंतुओं, पारिजात फूलों के गुच्छों और सिर से पैर तक कई अन्य फूलों और रत्नों से सुशोभित था।
32. [ एतावताथ कालेन वधूत्वं कुम्भ आययौ ।
घनस्तनभराक्रान्तो बभूवाशु विलासवान् ॥ ३२ ॥
etāvatātha kālena vadhūtvaṃ kumbha āyayau |ghanastanabharākrānto babhūvāśu vilāsavān || 32 ||
She appeared also at this time in her bridal garb and maiden like figure, with her big and swollen breasts, and with all her youthful grace and blandishments. ]
वह इस समय भी अपने दुल्हन के वेश और युवती जैसी आकृति में, अपने बड़े और उभरे हुए स्तनों के साथ, और अपनी सारी युवा सुंदरता और मोहकता के साथ प्रकट हुई।
33. इदं संचिन्तयामास संपन्नोऽयमहं वधूः ।
कामायात्मा मया देयः कार्यं कालोचितं किल ॥ ३३ ॥
idaṃ saṃcintayāmāsa saṃpanno'yamahaṃ vadhūḥ |kāmāyātmā mayā deyaḥ kāryaṃ kālocitaṃ kila || 33 ||
She thought that as she was now attired and appeared as a nuptial bride, she must now offer herself to a husband worthy to her.
उसने सोचा कि अब जब वह सजी-धजी है और एक नवविवाहित दुल्हन की तरह दिखती है, तो उसे अब अपने आप को एक योग्य पति को अर्पित करना चाहिए।
34. [ इयमस्मि वधूः कान्ता भर्ता त्वं मे पुरःस्थितः ।
गृहाण काम मामेहि कालोऽयं तव हृच्छयः ॥ ३४ ॥
iyamasmi vadhūḥ kāntā bhartā tvaṃ me puraḥsthitaḥ |gṛhāṇa kāma māmehi kālo'yaṃ tava hṛcchayaḥ || 34 ||
Here am I as a lovely bride, said she to herself, and there is my husband in my presence; I must ask him to accept my hand, nor is this time to be slipped from hand. ]
मैं यहाँ एक सुंदर दुल्हन की तरह हूँ, उसने मन ही मन कहा, और मेरे पति मेरे सामने हैं; मुझे उनसे मेरा हाथ स्वीकार करने के लिए कहना होगा, और यह समय मेरे हाथ से फिसलने वाला नहीं है।
35. [ इति संचिन्त्य भर्तारमग्रस्थगहनस्थितम् ।
उदयन्तमिवादित्यं रतिः काममिवाभ्यगात् ॥ ३५ ॥
iti saṃcintya bhartāramagrasthagahanasthitam |
udayantamivādityaṃ ratiḥ kāmamivābhyagāt || 35 ||
So saying, she approached her husband sitting apart from her in the wood; and appeared as Rati—the goddess of love, was advancing towards her loving Kama.]
ऐसा कहकर वह जंगल में उससे अलग बैठे अपने पति के पास गई; और प्रेम की देवी रति के रूप में प्रकट हुई, जो अपने प्रेमी कामदेव की ओर बढ़ रही थी ।
वह उसके पास गई और बोली :
36. [ अहं मदनिका नाम भार्यास्मि तव मानद ।
पादयोस्ते प्रणामोऽयं सस्नेहं क्रियते मया ॥ ३६ ॥
ahaṃ madanikā nāma bhāryāsmi tava mānada |pādayoste praṇāmo'yaṃ sasnehaṃ kriyate mayā || 36 ||
She went to him and said:—"I am Madanika by name and thy loving wife I therefore bow down at your feet, with the regard due to a husband. ]
मेरा नाम मदनिका है और मैं आपकी प्रिय पत्नी हूँ, इसलिए मैं पति के प्रति उचित आदर के साथ आपके चरणों में नतमस्तक होती हूँ।"
37. [ इत्युक्त्वा सानवद्याङ्गी लज्जावनमितानना ।
लोलालकेन शिरसा प्रणनाम लसत्पतिम् ॥ ३७ ॥
ityuktvā sānavadyāṅgī lajjāvanamitānanā |
lolālakena śirasā praṇanāma lasatpatim || 37 ||
So saying, the beauteous lady, bent down her head with female bashfulness; and made her obeisance to her lord, with the pendant locks on her head. ]"
ऐसा कहकर, सुंदर स्त्री ने स्त्री लज्जा से अपना सिर झुकाया; और अपने सिर पर लटकती लटों के साथ अपने स्वामी को प्रणाम किया।
फिर उसने उससे कहा :-
38. उवाचेदं च हे नाथ त्वं मां भूषय भूषणैः ।
क्रमेणाग्निं च संज्वाल्य मत्पाणिग्रहणं कुरु ॥ ३८ ॥
uvācedaṃ ca he nātha tvaṃ māṃ bhūṣaya bhūṣaṇaiḥ |krameṇāgniṃ ca saṃjvālya matpāṇigrahaṇaṃ kuru || 38 ||
And then she said to him said:—“O thou my lord! do thou adorn me with ornaments also, and then light the nuptial fire, to attest thy acceptance of my hand.”
[ "हे मेरे स्वामी! मुझे आभूषणों से भी सुशोभित करें और फिर विवाह अग्नि प्रज्वलित करें, ताकि आप मेरे हाथ को स्वीकार करने के साक्षी बनें।"
39. [ राजसेऽतितरां राजन्मां करोषि स्मरातुराम् ।
रतेर्विवाहे मदनमभिभूयाधितिष्ठसि ॥ ३९ ॥
rājase'titarāṃ rājanmāṃ karoṣi smarāturām |ratervivāhe madanamabhibhūyādhitiṣṭhasi || 39 ||
Thou appearest as exceedingly fair to my eyes, and makest me quite fond of thee; and thou seemest to me to surpass the God of love in the beauty of person, even when he wedded his Rati at first in his youthful bloom. ]
तुम मेरी दृष्टि में अत्यंत सुंदर प्रतीत होती हो, और मैं तुमसे पूरी तरह मोहित हो जाता हूँ; और तुम मुझे प्रेम के देवता से भी अधिक सुंदर प्रतीत होती हो, यहाँ तक कि जब उन्होंने अपनी युवावस्था में रति से विवाह किया था।
40. [ इन्दोरिवांशुजालानि राजन्माल्यानि तानि ते ।
मेरुगङ्गाप्रवाहाभां धत्ते हारस्तवोरसि ॥ ४० ॥
indorivāṃśujālāni rājanmālyāni tāni te |
merugaṅgāpravāhābhāṃ dhatte hārastavorasi || 40 ||
O prince, these wreathed flowers on thy person, appear as the brightsome beams in the body of the moon; and those strings of flowers pendant on thy bosom, seem to me as the stream of Ganges, gliding on the breast of the Sumeru mountain. ]
हे राजकुमार, तेरे शरीर पर ये पुष्पों की मालाएँ मुझे चंद्रमा के शरीर की चमकीली किरणों के समान प्रतीत होती हैं; और तेरे सीने पर लटकी हुई फूलों की वे मालाएँ मुझे सुमेरु पर्वत की छाती पर बहती गंगा की धारा के समान लगती हैं।
41. [ मन्दारकुसुमप्रोतैः कुन्तलैर्नृप राजसे ।
कनकाब्जमिवोल्लोलैर्भृङ्गैः खचितकेसरैः ॥ ४१ ॥
mandārakusumaprotaiḥ kuntalairnṛpa rājase |kanakābjamivollolairbhṛṅgaiḥ khacitakesaraiḥ || 41 ||
With the flowing braided hairs on thy head, thou appearest as the mount of Mandara, with the clusters of creepers hanging down from its top; while thy head itself appears as golden lotus, with its hanging hairs resembling the filaments of the flower, and studded with strings of blackening bees. ]
अपने सिर पर लहराते हुए गुंथे हुए बालों के साथ, तुम मंदार
पर्वत के समान प्रकट होते हो , जिसके शिखर से लताओं के गुच्छे लटक रहे हैं; जबकि तुम्हारा सिर स्वयं सुनहरे कमल के समान प्रतीत होता है, जिसके लटकते बाल फूल के तंतुओं के समान हैं, और काली होती मधुमक्खियों की मालाओं से जड़े हुए हैं।
42. [ रत्नांशुजालैः कुसुमैः श्रिया स्थैर्येण तेजसा ।
रत्नस्थानं विभो मेरुमभिभूयावतिष्ठसे ॥ ४२ ॥
ratnāṃśujālaiḥ kusumaiḥ śriyā sthairyeṇa tejasā |ratnasthānaṃ vibho merumabhibhūyāvatiṣṭhase || 42 ||
The gemming ornaments and flowery decorations of thy person, add to it the lustre and gracefulness of the mount Meru, with its mineral ores on one side and its floral beauty on the other. ]
तुम्हारे शरीर पर जड़े रत्नों और पुष्पों से सजे आभूषण, मेरु पर्वत की चमक और सुंदरता को और भी बढ़ा देते हैं, जिसके एक ओर खनिज अयस्क और दूसरी ओर पुष्प सौंदर्य है।
43. [ एवमादि वदन्तौ तौ भविष्यन्नवदम्पती ।
प्रच्छन्नपूर्वदाम्पत्यौ मिथस्तुष्टौ बभूवतुः ॥ ४३ ॥
evamādi vadantau tau bhaviṣyannavadampatī |
pracchannapūrvadāmpatyau mithastuṣṭau babhūvatuḥ || 43 ||
After her flattering speech was over, the new bride and bridegroom, and future husband and wife sat contented together, unmindful and forgetful of their past conjugal relation. ]
उसकी चापलूसी भरी बातें समाप्त होने के बाद, नवविवाहित दूल्हा-दुल्हन और भावी पति-पत्नी एक साथ संतुष्ट भाव से बैठे रहे, अपने अतीत के वैवाहिक संबंध को भूलकर।
44. [ महाराज्ञीं मदनिकां महाराजः शिखिध्वजः ।
काञ्चनोपलपर्यङ्के निविष्टो भूषयत्स्वयम् ॥ ४४ ॥
mahārājñīṃ madanikāṃ mahārājaḥ śikhidhvajaḥ |kāñcanopalaparyaṅke niviṣṭo bhūṣayatsvayam || 44 ||
The brave princess now Madanika by name, and the noble prince Sikhidvaja the saint, both sat together on a golden seat (of the mineral mountain); which added fresh lustre to the beauty and decoration of their persons. ]
वीर राजकुमारी मदनिका और महान राजकुमार सिखिद्वाज संत, दोनों एक स्वर्णिम आसन (खनिज पर्वत का) पर एक साथ बैठे थे; जिसने उनके सौंदर्य और अलंकरण में नई चमक जोड़ दी।
45. [ अवतंसैस्तथा माल्यैर्मणिरत्नविभूषणैः ।
वस्त्रैर्विलेपनैः पुष्पै रुचिरस्थानकार्पितैः ॥ ४५ ॥
avataṃsaistathā mālyairmaṇiratnavibhūṣaṇaiḥ |
vastrairvilepanaiḥ puṣpai rucirasthānakārpitaiḥ || 45 ||
They were bedecked with their head dresses, garlands of flowers and ornaments of gems and pearls, and were furnished with flowers and ointments, and clad in fine cloths all over their bodies. ]
वे अपने सिर के आभूषणों, फूलों की मालाओं और रत्नों और मोतियों के आभूषणों से सजे हुए थे, और फूलों और इत्रों से सुसज्जित थे, और अपने पूरे शरीर पर उत्तम वस्त्रों से ढके हुए थे।
46. [ सा बभौ भूषिता तन्वी मदनी मददायिनी ।
गिरिजेव विवाहोत्का कामकान्तेव कामिनी ॥ ४६ ॥
sā babhau bhūṣitā tanvī madanī madadāyinī |girijeva vivāhotkā kāmakānteva kāminī || 46 ||
The young lady Madanika blazed as Venus with her maddening beauty, and appeared as the goddess Gowri—the surpassing paragon of beauty, at her wedding festivity. ]
युवती मदनिका अपनी मदोश कर देने वाली सुंदरता से शुक्र ग्रह की तरह चमक उठी और अपने विवाह समारोह में सौंदर्य की पराकाष्ठा देवी गौरी के रूप में प्रकट हुई।
47. [ महाराजो महाराज्ञीं भूषयित्वेदमाह ताम् ।
राजसे मृगशावाक्षि लक्ष्मीरिव नवोदिता ॥ ४७ ॥
mahārājo mahārājñīṃ bhūṣayitvedamāha tām |rājase mṛgaśāvākṣi lakṣmīriva navoditā || 47 ||
The noble lord having embellished his noble lady with his own hands, thus spoke to her after her toilet; “O thou fawn eyed fairy, thou art as graceful as the goddess of grace and prosperity”. ]
महान स्वामी ने अपने हाथों से अपनी प्रिय पत्नी का श्रृंगार करने के बाद, उसके श्रृंगार के बाद उससे इस प्रकार कहा; "हे हिरण जैसी आंखों वाली परी, तुम कृपा और समृद्धि की देवी के समान सुंदर हो"।
48. [ शक्रेण सह यच्छच्या यल्लक्ष्म्या हरिणा सह ।
यद्गौर्याः शंभुना सार्धं तत्ते भवतु मङ्गलम् ॥ ४८ ॥
śakreṇa saha yacchacyā yallakṣmyā hariṇā saha |yadgauryāḥ śaṃbhunā sārdhaṃ tatte bhavatu maṅgalam || 48 ||
I pray for all that prosperity to attend on thee, as it does with Sachi.—The queen of heaven, in the company of her lord Indra; and as it subsisted between the mutual pairs of Hara and Gowri; and Hari and his consort Lakshmi—the goddess of fortune. ]
मैं प्रार्थना करता हूँ कि तुम्हें वह सारी समृद्धि प्राप्त हो, जैसी साची को अपने स्वामी इंद्र के साथ प्राप्त हुई थी; और जैसी हर और गौरी के बीच; और हरि और उनकी पत्नी लक्ष्मी (भाग्य की देवी) के बीच बनी रही थी।
49. [ पद्मकोशाङ्कुरहृदा लोलनीलोत्पलेक्षणा ।
आमोदशुभझांकारा स्वास्थिता पद्मिनीव सा ॥ ४९ ॥
padmakośāṅkurahṛdā lolanīlotpalekṣaṇā |
āmodaśubhajhāṃkārā svāsthitā padminīva sā || 49 ||
Thou appearest as a limpid lake of lotuses, with thy breasts blooming like lotus buds; and thy black blue eyes resembling the cerulean lotuses (nilumbiums); and the sweet fragrance of thy lotus like person, inviting the buzzing bees fluttering all about thee. ]
तुम कमलों की निर्मल झील के समान प्रकट होती हो, तुम्हारे स्तन कमल की कलियों के समान खिले हुए हैं; तुम्हारी काली नीली आँखें नीले कमलों (नीलम्बियम) के समान हैं; और तुम्हारे कमल जैसे स्वरूप की मधुर सुगंध तुम्हारे चारों ओर भिनभिनाती मधुमक्खियों को आकर्षित करती है।
50. [ सुरक्तपल्लवकरा स्तनस्तबकधारिणी ।
त्वमनेकफला मन्ये कामकल्पतरोर्लता ॥ ५० ॥
suraktapallavakarā stanastabakadhāriṇī |
tvamanekaphalā manye kāmakalpatarorlatā || 50 ||
Thou appearest likewise as a tender shoot of the Kalpa plant of Cupid, with thy rubicund palms resembling its reddish leaves; and thy swollen breasts likening to its blooming buds, and every part of thy body, is as delicate as its delicious fruits. ]
तुम कामदेव के कल्प पौधे की कोमल शाखा के समान प्रकट होती हो, तुम्हारे लाल रंग के हाथ उसके लाल पत्तों के समान हैं; और तुम्हारे फूले हुए स्तन उसकी खिलती कलियों के समान हैं, और तुम्हारे शरीर का हर अंग उसके स्वादिष्ट फलों के समान कोमल है।
51. [ हिमशीतावदाताङ्गी ज्योत्स्नाप्रसरहासिनी ।
पूर्णेन्दुश्रीरिवोद्युक्ता हृष्टैवाह्लादयस्यलम् ॥ ५१ ॥
himaśītāvadātāṅgī jyotsnāprasarahāsinī |
pūrṇenduśrīrivodyuktā hṛṣṭaivāhlādayasyalam || 51 ||
With thy cold and cooling body, and thy moon like face and its smiles as moon beams, thou art as beautiful as the full-moon, and equally delightful to sight. ]
तेरे शीतल और निर्मल शरीर, और तेरे चंद्रमा जैसे मुख और उसकी चंद्रमा की किरणों जैसी मुस्कान के साथ, तू पूर्णिमा के चंद्रमा के समान सुंदर और दृष्टि में समान रूप से आनंददायक है।
52. [ तदुत्तिष्ठ वरारोहे वेदीं वैवाहिकीं स्वयम् ।
तत्र पुष्पलताजालैः काण्डं प्रति शिलाङ्कितैः ॥ ५२ ॥
taduttiṣṭha varārohe vedīṃ vaivāhikīṃ svayam |tatra puṣpalatājālaiḥ kāṇḍaṃ prati śilāṅkitaiḥ || 52 ||
Rise therefore my beauteous lady and ascend on the matrimonial altar, and there perform the marriage ceremony, standing on the slab of stone, marked with creeping plants and their fruits. ]
हे मेरी सुंदर स्त्री, उठो और विवाह वेदी पर चढ़ो, और वहाँ लता-पौधों और उनके फलों से अंकित पत्थर की पटिया पर खड़े होकर विवाह समारोह संपन्न करो। (व्याख्या में कहा गया है कि यह पत्थर या पटिया नौ प्रकार के नवरत्न रत्नों के रंगों से भी चित्रित है , जो नौ ग्रहों के लिए पवित्र हैं)।
वशिष्ठ ने कहा :—
53. [ श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
मुक्ताकुसुमजालानां प्रकरैः स्तबकोपमैः ।
चतुर्दिक्कं चतुर्भिश्च नालिकेरमहाफलैः ॥ ५३ ॥
śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca |
muktākusumajālānāṃ prakaraiḥ stabakopamaiḥ |caturdikkaṃ caturbhiśca nālikeramahāphalaiḥ || 53 ||
Vasishtha said:—The altar was studded with strings of pearls, and bunches of flowers suspended on all sides; and it had four large cocoanut fruits, hang over the four sides of its square. ]
वेदी मोतियों की मालाओं से सजी थी, और चारों ओर फूलों के गुच्छे लटके हुए थे; और इसके वर्ग के चारों ओर चार बड़े नारियल लटके हुए थे।
54. [ पूर्णकुम्भैस्तथा गङ्गावारिपूर्णैः प्रकल्पितैः ।
ज्वालयामासतुस्तस्या मध्ये चन्दनदारुभिः ॥ ५४ ॥
pūrṇakumbhaistathā gaṅgāvāripūrṇaiḥ prakalpitaiḥ |jvālayāmāsatustasyā madhye candanadārubhiḥ || 54 ||
There were pots filled with the holy water of Ganga set about it, and the sacred matrimonial fire was lighted amidst it, and fed with the fuel of the sandal wood and other fragrances. ]
गंगा के पवित्र जल से भरे हुए बर्तन उसके चारों ओर रखे गए थे, और उसके बीच में पवित्र वैवाहिक अग्नि प्रज्वलित की गई थी, और चंदन और अन्य सुगंधित पदार्थों से उसे जल दिया गया था।
55. [ ज्वलनं ज्वालितज्वालं दक्षिणस्थं प्रदक्षिणम् ।
पूर्वाभिमुखमेवाग्नेरग्रे पल्लवविष्टरे ॥ ५५ ॥
jvalanaṃ jvālitajvālaṃ dakṣiṇasthaṃ pradakṣiṇam|pūrvābhimukhamevāgneragre pallavaviṣṭare || 55 ||
They turned round the flaming fire by the right hand side, and then sat on seats of leaves with their faces turned towards the east. ]
उन्होंने दाहिनी ओर जलती हुई आग के चारों ओर चक्कर लगाया, और फिर पूर्व की ओर मुख करके पत्तों की सीटों पर बैठ गए।
56. [ नियोज्य दंपती कान्तौ तयोर्विविशतुः स्वयम् ।
स हुत्वा तिललाजानि पावकाय शिखिध्वजः ॥ ५६ ॥
niyojya daṃpatī kāntau tayorviviśatuḥ svayam |sa hutvā tilalājāni pāvakāya śikhidhvajaḥ || 56 ||
After sitting on the altar, the matrimonial couple kindled the nuptial fire, and made offerings of sesame seeds, and fried rice upon its flames. ]
वेदी पर बैठने के बाद, पति-पत्नी ने विवाह अग्नि प्रज्वलित की, और उसकी ज्वालाओं पर तिल और तले हुए चावल की आहुति दी।
57. [ उत्थायोत्थाय कान्तां स पाणिभ्यां स्वयमाददे ।
अन्योन्यं शोभमानौ तौ भवाविव वने शिवौ ॥ ५७ ॥
utthāyotthāya kāntāṃ sa pāṇibhyāṃ svayamādade |anyonyaṃ śobhamānau tau bhavāviva vane śivau || 57 ||
The married pair turned again about the sacred fire, and offered to each other their own selves and loves as their marriage dowries. ]
विवाहित जोड़े ने पवित्र अग्नि के चारों ओर फिर से मुड़कर एक दूसरे को अपने आप को और अपने प्रेम को विवाह दहेज के रूप में अर्पित किया।
58. [ चक्रतुर्दंपती तस्य पावकस्य प्रदक्षिणम् ।
स्वदायं ज्ञानसर्वस्वं हृदयं प्रेम चापलम् ॥ ५८ ॥
cakraturdaṃpatī tasya pāvakasya pradakṣiṇam |svadāyaṃ jñānasarvasvaṃ hṛdayaṃ prema cāpalam || 58 ||
They showed to one another their shining faces, as their nuptial presents; and completed the ceremony by going round the fire, and scattering the fried rice upon it. ]
उन्होंने एक दूसरे को अपने चमकते चेहरे दिखाए, जैसे कि उनके वैवाहिक उपहार; और अग्नि के चारों ओर घूमकर और उस पर तले हुए चावल बिखेरकर समारोह पूरा किया।
59. [ ददतुस्तौ मिथोऽन्योन्यस्मितकान्तमुखश्रियौ ।
प्रदक्षिणत्रयं कृत्वा लाजांस्त्यक्त्वाथ वह्नये ॥ ५९ ॥
dadatustau mitho'nyonyasmitakāntamukhaśriyau |
pradakṣiṇatrayaṃ kṛtvā lājāṃstyaktvātha vahnaye || 59 ||]
59. [ उन्होंने एक दूसरे को मुस्कराकर सुन्दर मुख दिया ।
नगर की तीन बार परिक्रमा करके लज्जा को अग्नि में रख देना चाहिए । 59॥
59. [ They gave each other to each other with each other, whose faces were smiling. After circumambulating three circumambulations, one should give up the lajas in the fire. 59 ॥
60. [ भार्यावरौ समं तुष्टौ करौ तत्यजतुः क्रमात् ।
स्मयमानमुखौ कान्तौ चन्द्राविव नवोदितौ ॥ ६० ॥
bhāryāvarau samaṃ tuṣṭau karau tatyajatuḥ kramāt | smayamānamukhau kāntau candrāviva navoditau || 60 ||
The husband and wife now parted other hands, from their hold of the palms of one another; and their smiling faces, appeared as the lunar disk on the new moon. ]
पति-पत्नी ने अब एक-दूसरे की हथेलियों को पकड़ से अलग कर लिया; और उनके मुस्कुराते चेहरे अमावस्या के चंद्रमा पर चंद्र चक्र की तरह दिखाई दिए।
61. [ पूर्वोपरचिते पुष्पतल्पे विविशतुर्नवे ।
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे चन्द्रश्चतुर्भागं नभस्तलात् ॥ ६१ ॥
pūrvoparacite puṣpatalpe viviśaturnave |
etasminnantare candraścaturbhāgaṃ nabhastalāt || 61 ||
After this they went to sleep on a flowery bedstead which they had newly prepared before, when the moon had already run her course of the first watch of the night. ]
इसके बाद वे फूलों से सजे पलंग पर सो गए, जिसे उन्होंने पहले से ही नया तैयार किया था, जब रात के पहले पहर में चंद्रमा अपना चक्र पूरा कर चुका था।
62. [ शनैराक्रमयामास शोभां द्रष्टुमिवानयोः ।
तस्मिंश्च ललनाछिद्रं द्रष्टुं दृष्टिरिवाभितः ॥ ६२ ॥
śanairākramayāmāsa śobhāṃ draṣṭumivānayoḥ |tasmiṃśca lalanāchidraṃ draṣṭuṃ dṛṣṭirivābhitaḥ || 62 ||
She cast her beams to fall aslant on the bedstead, as when the attendant women cast their glances askance on the bridal bed. ]
उसने अपनी किरणें पलंग पर तिरछी डालीं, जैसे परिचारिकाएँ दुल्हन के पलंग पर तिरछी निगाहें डालती हैं।
63. [ लोलः संचरयामास करानिन्दुर्लतागृहे ।
तैस्तैर्नवकथालापैरिन्दावभ्युदिते त्वथ ॥ ६३ ॥
lolaḥ saṃcarayāmāsa karānindurlatāgṛhe |
taistairnavakathālāpairindāvabhyudite tvatha || 63 ||
She next spread her bright beams all about the leafy bower of the pair; as if to listen to the pleasant conversation, of the new married couple. ]
इसके बाद उसने अपनी चमकीली किरणें जोड़े के पत्तों से भरे मंडप में चारों ओर फैला दीं; मानो नवविवाहित जोड़े की सुखद बातचीत सुनने के लिए।
64. [ तावासांचक्रतुः कान्तौ दंपती सुमुहूर्तकम् ।
अथोत्थाय ज्वलद्रत्नदीपां काञ्चनकन्दराम् ॥ ६४ ॥
tāvāsāṃcakratuḥ kāntau daṃpatī sumuhūrtakam |athotthāya jvaladratnadīpāṃ kāñcanakandarām || 64 ||
The pair having sat there awhile, in the light of the mineral lamps, retired to their sleeping bed, which they had prepared beforehand in a secluded spot. ]
खनिज दीपों की रोशनी में कुछ देर बैठने के बाद, वे दोनों अपने सोने के बिस्तर पर चले गए, जिसे उन्होंने पहले से ही एकांत स्थान पर तैयार कर रखा था।
65. [ स्वयं पूर्वोपरचितां गुप्तां विविशतुः प्रियौ ।
ददर्शतुर्नवं तत्र तल्पं कुसुमकल्पितम् ॥ ६५ ॥
svayaṃ pūrvoparacitāṃ guptāṃ viviśatuḥ priyau |dadarśaturnavaṃ tatra talpaṃ kusumakalpitam || 65 ||
It was a bedding of flowers, and beset by heaps of flowers of various kinds. ]
यह फूलों का बिस्तर था, और विभिन्न प्रकार के फूलों के ढेरों से घिरा हुआ था। (इसे पुष्प - तल्प कहा जाता है और यह विवाह के वर्तमान स्वरूप में भी प्रचलित है)।
66. [ परितो व्याप्तमुत्कीर्णैर्हेमपङ्कजराशिभिः ।
मन्दारादिभिरन्यैश्च पुष्पैर्ग्लानिविवर्जितैः ॥ ६६ ॥
parito vyāptamutkīrṇairhemapaṅkajarāśibhiḥ |
mandārādibhiranyaiśca puṣpairglānivivarjitaiḥ || 66 ||
There were heaps of lotuses of golden hue, as also mandara and other sorts of flowers, to drive away fatigue by their fragrance. ]
सुनहरे रंग के कमलों के ढेर लगे थे, साथ ही मंदार और अन्य प्रकार के फूल भी थे, जिनकी सुगंध से थकान दूर हो जाती थी।
67. [ उच्चकैः सुप्रमाणेन निर्मितैः कुसुमैः समैः ।
दीर्घेन्दुबिम्बप्रतिमैस्तुषारस्थलशीतलैः ॥ ६७ ॥
uccakaiḥ supramāṇena nirmitaiḥ kusumaiḥ samaiḥ |
dīrghendubimbapratimaistuṣārasthalaśītalaiḥ || 67 ||
The flat of the flowery bed of the bridal pair, resembled the plane of the broad and bright moon, and a level surface covered by the cooling ice. ]
दूल्हा-दुल्हन के फूलों से सजे बिस्तर का समतल भाग, चौड़े और चमकीले चंद्रमा के तल और ठंडी बर्फ से ढकी समतल सतह जैसा दिखता था।
68. [ क्षीरोदजलधाराभं ज्योत्स्नासंपिण्डसुन्दरम् ।
प्रतिबिम्बमनङ्गस्य नतं भित्ताविव स्थितम् ॥ ६८ ॥
kṣīrodajaladhārābhaṃ jyotsnāsaṃpiṇḍasundaram |
pratibimbamanaṅgasya nataṃ bhittāviva sthitam || 68 ||
It bore likewise the resemblance of the wide sea, whose waters are impregnated by the bright moon, and whose surface supplies a bed to Ananta—the sleeping spirit of the endless God. ]
यह विशाल समुद्र के समान था, जिसका जल उज्ज्वल चंद्रमा से जगमगाता है, और जिसकी सतह अनंत —अनंत ईश्वर की सोई हुई आत्मा—के लिए बिस्तर का काम करती है।
69. [ सुगन्धमुन्नतं कान्तं चिरादन्यतयोत्थितम् ।
The loving pair then lay themselves down, and rolled upon their snow white bed of flowers; as when Mandara mountain, rolled about and churned the Milky ocean. ]
मिथुनं पुष्पराशौ तन्न्यषीदत्परितोऽमले ।
तस्मिन्समसमाभोगे क्षीरोदे मन्दरो यथा ॥ ६९ ॥
sugandhamunnataṃ kāntaṃ cirādanyatayotthitam |mithunaṃ puṣparāśau tannyaṣīdatparito'male |
tasminsamasamābhoge kṣīrode mandaro yathā || 69 ||
फिर प्रेमी जोड़ा लेट गया और फूलों के अपने बर्फ जैसे सफेद बिस्तर पर लोटने लगा; जैसे मंदार पर्वत घूमता है और दूधिया सागर को मथता है।
70. [ तैस्तैर्मिथः प्रणयपेशलवाग्विलासैस्तत्कालकार्यसुभगैः प्रणयोपचारैः । सत्कान्तयोर्नवनवेन तयोः सुखेन दीर्घा मुहूर्त इव सा रजनी जगाम ॥ ७० ॥
taistairmithaḥ praṇayapeśalavāgvilāsaistatkālakāryasubhagaiḥ praṇayopacāraiḥ |
satkāntayornavanavena tayoḥ sukhena dīrghā muhūrta iva sā rajanī jagāma || 70 ||
They passed their bridal night in mutual caresses and conversation on topics of love, and the live long night glided before them as a few moments only. ]
उन्होंने अपनी वैवाहिक रात आपसी स्नेह और प्रेम के विषयों पर बातचीत में बिताई, और पूरी रात उनके सामने कुछ ही पलों की तरह गुज़र गई।
