विवेकचूडामणि: आत्म-निरूपण (131-135)
सदैकरूपः प्रतिबोधमात्रो येनेषिता वागसवश्चरन्ति ॥ १३१॥
हिन्दी: यह अन्तरात्मा सनातन पुरुष है, जो निरंतर अखंड आनंद का अनुभव स्वरूप है। यह सदैव एकरस और शुद्ध बोधमात्र है, जिसकी प्रेरणा से ही वाणी और प्राण अपना कार्य करते हैं।
English: This is the innermost Self, the ancient Being, whose nature is continuous and unbroken experience of bliss. It is always the same, pure consciousness, by whose will the speech and Pranas (vital breaths) function.
आकाश उच्चै रविवत्प्रकाशते स्वतेजसा विश्वमिदं प्रकाशयन् ॥ १३२॥
हिन्दी: बुद्धि रूपी गुफा के भीतर, इस अव्याकृत आकाश में वह परमात्मा सूर्य की भाँति अत्यंत तेजस्वी होकर प्रकाशित होता है और अपने ही प्रकाश से इस समस्त विश्व को प्रकाशित करता है।
English: Within the cave of the intellect, in the unmanifested space, this Supreme Self shines with immense radiance like the sun, illuminating the entire universe by its own light.
अयोऽग्निवत्ताननुवर्तमानो न चेष्टते नो विकरोति किञ्चन ॥ १३३॥
हिन्दी: वह मन और अहंकार के विकारों तथा शरीर, इन्द्रिय एवं प्राणों की क्रियाओं का ज्ञाता है। जैसे तपा हुआ लोहा अग्नि के समान दिखता है पर अग्नि लोहे के गुणों का अनुसरण नहीं करती, वैसे ही आत्मा स्वयं न कोई चेष्टा करता है, न ही विकृत होता है।
English: It is the knower of the modifications of the mind and ego, and of the activities of the body and senses. Just as fire in a hot iron ball does not follow the properties of iron, the Self neither acts nor undergoes any change.
विलीयमानेऽपि वपुष्यमुष्मिन्न लीयते कुम्भ इवाम्बरं स्वयम् ॥ १३४॥
हिन्दी: यह नित्य आत्मा न जन्म लेता है, न मरता है, न बढ़ता है और न घटता है। शरीर के नष्ट हो जाने पर भी यह नष्ट नहीं होता, ठीक वैसे ही जैसे घड़े के फूट जाने पर उसके भीतर का आकाश नष्ट नहीं होता।
English: This eternal Self is neither born nor dies; it neither grows nor decays. Even when this body is destroyed, the Self is not destroyed, just as the space inside a jar remains unaffected when the jar is broken.
विलसति परमात्मा जाग्रदादिष्ववस्थास्वहमहमिति साक्षात्साक्षिरूपेण बुद्धेः ॥ १३५॥
हिन्दी: प्रकृति और उसके विकारों से भिन्न, शुद्ध ज्ञानस्वरूप और निर्विशेष परमात्मा जाग्रत आदि तीनों अवस्थाओं में बुद्धि के साक्षी रूप में "मैं-मैं" के रूप में स्वयं प्रकाशित होता रहता है।
English: Distinct from Prakriti and its modifications, of the nature of pure knowledge, and featureless, the Supreme Self shines directly in the states of waking etc., as the witness of the intellect, manifesting as "I-I".
