The Truth of Life and Happiness

What is the truth of life? Who is truly happy?

Many people believe that the meaning of life is to become rich. According to this belief, wealth brings happiness. If this idea were true, then the richest countries in the world should be the happiest places on earth.

However, when we observe these wealthy nations, we find that many of them are deeply troubled. They live with constant fear—fear of war, fear of attack, and fear of destruction. They spend enormous resources trying to protect themselves from other nations. Powerful countries develop stronger weapons in order to dominate or destroy others.

At the same time, poorer nations also become involved in this dangerous system. They buy and sell weapons and try to build power for their own security. Every country fears that another nation may become stronger and threaten its existence. Because of this, there is not a single nation in the world that can truly say it is completely safe.

For example, the United States is considered one of the most powerful countries in the world. Yet even such a powerful nation experiences tension and conflict with smaller countries such as North Korea. This shows that power and wealth alone cannot bring true peace or security.

As a result, the entire world lives in a state of anxiety and uncertainty. Nations struggle constantly to protect their existence. Some scientists even believe that humanity may one day need to search for new places to live beyond the Earth, such as the Moon or the planet Mars. Preparations for space exploration are increasing rapidly, because many fear that the future of life on Earth may become difficult.

What Is Life?

The question “What is life?” is one of the most complex and profound questions in the world.

Throughout history, many great thinkers and philosophers have tried to answer this question. Ancient poets often described life as full of suffering and struggle. Western philosophers have also written extensively about the difficulties and mysteries of life.

Yet none of these explanations completely satisfies everyone. Many wise and enlightened people say that life is a great mystery. It cannot be fully explained by simple words or ideas.

When we look deeply into our own experiences, we sometimes feel that life resembles a vast and unknown ocean—dark, unpredictable, and filled with challenges. From ancient times until today, no human being has completely escaped the difficulties of life. Whether someone is a king or a poor person, life presents challenges in different forms.

The Nature of Life

When we examine life carefully from every perspective, we notice that suffering appears to be a natural part of human existence.

People speak about happiness and joy in life. Yet lasting happiness is rarely found. If someone truly discovered permanent happiness, that person would surely declare, “I have found complete happiness.” But such a declaration is rarely heard.

Occasionally we may see someone who appears extremely happy, but such cases are rare and cannot represent the experience of all people.

The reason is that human beings often believe that happiness will come in the future. We imagine that once we achieve certain goals—wealth, success, recognition—we will finally become happy. But this happiness remains an idea about the future. It rarely becomes a permanent reality.

Often society, family, and education encourage us to chase these dreams. Parents, teachers, and relatives teach us to struggle for success, wealth, and power, believing that these achievements will bring happiness. But sometimes these expectations only increase pressure and dissatisfaction.

The Role of Knowledge in Understanding Life

Before we can truly understand life, we must understand what life is made of.

Life is deeply connected with knowledge and awareness. Knowledge means understanding the reality of existence. Without knowledge, we cannot fully understand life or its purpose.

Some people say that life is suffering. Others say that life is a mysterious journey. Both perspectives contain some truth. Life includes both struggle and mystery.

Through deeper knowledge and self-awareness, a person begins to see life more clearly. Instead of chasing endless desires, the wise person tries to understand the nature of existence.

Only through knowledge, wisdom, and self-reflection can we begin to discover the deeper meaning of life.
