तर्क . राक्षसों की बढ़ती इच्छाएँ, उन्हें युद्ध फिर से शुरू करने के लिए प्रेरित करती हैं।

वशिष्ठ ने आगे कहा :—

1. [ श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।

इत्युक्त्वा भगवान्देवांस्तत्रैवान्तर्धिमाययौ ।

वेलावनितटे शब्दं कृत्वेवाम्बुतरङ्गकः ॥ १ ॥

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca |

ityuktvā bhagavāndevāṃstatraivāntardhimāyayau |velāvanitaṭe śabdaṃ kṛtvevāmbutaraṅgakaḥ || 1 ||

Vasishtha continued:—Saying so, the god Brahma vanished from the sight of the gods, as the wave of the sea retires and mixes with its waters, after having dashed and crashed against the shore. ]

ऐसा कहकर भगवान ब्रह्मा देवताओं की दृष्टि से अदृश्य हो गए, जैसे समुद्र की लहरें तट से टकराकर उसके जल में मिल जाती हैं।

2. [ सुरास्त्वाकर्ण्य तद्वाक्यं जग्मुः स्वाभिमतां दिशम् । कमलामोदमादाय वनमालामिवानिलाः ॥ २ ॥

surāstvākarṇya tadvākyaṃ jagmuḥ svābhimatāṃ diśam |

kamalāmodamādāya vanamālāmivānilāḥ || 2 ||

The gods, having heard the words of Brahma, returned to their respective abodes; as the breeze bearing the fragrance of the lotus, wafts it to the forests on all sides. ]

ब्रह्माजी के वचन सुनकर देवतागण अपने-अपने धाम को लौट गए; जैसे कमल की सुगन्धि को ले जाने वाली वायु उसे चारों ओर के वनों में फैला देती है।

3. [ दिनानि कतिचित्स्वेषु कान्तेषु स्थिरकान्तिषु ।

द्विरेफा इव पद्मेषु मन्दिरेषु विशश्रमुः ॥ ३ ॥

dināni katicitsveṣu kānteṣu sthirakāntiṣu|dvirephā iva padmeṣu mandireṣu viśaśramuḥ || 3 ||

They halted in their delightsome houses for some days, as the bees rest themselves in the cells of flowers after their wanderings. ]

वे कुछ दिनों तक अपने रमणीय घरों में रुके, जैसे मधुमक्खियाँ अपने भ्रमण के बाद फूलों की कोठरियों में विश्राम करती हैं।

4. [ कंचित्कालं समासाद्य स्वात्मोदयकरं शुभम् ।

चक्रुर्दुन्दुभिनिर्घोषं प्रलयाभ्ररवोपमम् ॥ ४ ॥

kaṃcitkālaṃ samāsādya svātmodayakaraṃ śubham |

cakrurdundubhinirghoṣaṃ pralayābhraravopamam || 4 ||

Having refreshed and invigorated themselves in the course of time, they gave the alarm of their rising, with the beating of their drums, sounding as the peal of the last day. ]

समय के साथ अपने को तरोताजा और स्फूर्तिवान बनाकर, उन्होंने अपने ढोल की थाप के साथ, जो अंतिम दिन की गड़गड़ाहट के समान था, अपने उठने की चेतावनी दी।

5. [ अथ दैत्यैर्ममाव्योम्नि तैः पातालतले स्थितैः ।

कालक्षेपकरं घोरं पुनर्युद्धमवर्तत ॥ ५ ॥

atha daityairmamāvyomni taiḥ pātālatale sthitaiḥ |kālakṣepakaraṃ ghoraṃ punaryuddhamavartata || 5 ||

Immediately the demons rose from the infernal regions, and met the gods in the midway air, and commenced their dreadful onset upon them. ]

तुरन्त ही राक्षस नरक लोक से उठे और आकाश में देवताओं से मिले और उन पर अपना भयानक आक्रमण आरम्भ कर दिया।

6. [ ववुरसिशरशक्तिमुद्गरौघा मुसलगदापरशूग्रचक्रशङ्खाः ।

अशनिगिरिशिलाहुताशवृक्षा अहिगरुडादिमुखानि चायुधानि ॥ ६ ॥

vavurasiśaraśaktimudgaraughā musalagadāparaśūgracakraśaṅkhāḥ |aśanigiriśilāhutāśavṛkṣā ahigaruḍādimukhāni cāyudhāni || 6 ||

Then there was a clashing of the armours, and clattering of swords and arrows, the flashing of lances and spears, and the crackling of mallets and various other weapons, as battle axes and discuses, thunderbolts, and hurling of rockstones and huge trees and the like. ]

तब कवचों की टकराहट, तलवारों और बाणों की खड़खड़ाहट, बरछों और भालों की चमक, हथौड़ों और अन्य विभिन्न हथियारों की कड़कड़ाहट, जैसे युद्ध के कुल्हाड़ियाँ और चक्र, बिजली, और पत्थरों और विशाल वृक्षों आदि का गिरना आदि हुआ।

7. [ मायाकृतायुधमहाम्बुघनप्रवाहा क्षिप्रावहा प्रतिदिशं किल निर्जगाम ।

पाषाणपर्वतमहीरुहलक्षवृक्षक्षुब्धाम्बुपूरघनघोषवती नदी द्राक् ॥ ७ ॥

māyākṛtāyudhamahāmbughanapravāhā kṣiprāvahā pratidiśaṃ kila nirjagāma |pāṣāṇaparvatamahīruhalakṣavṛkṣakṣubdhāmbupūraghanaghoṣavatī nadī drāk || 7 ||

There was also many magical instruments, which ran on all sides like the torrents of rivers; while rocks and hills, high mountains and huge trees, were flung and hurled from both sides, filling the earth with confused noise and rumbling. ]

वहाँ बहुत से जादुई यंत्र भी थे, जो नदियों की धाराओं की तरह चारों ओर बह रहे थे; और चट्टानें, पहाड़ियाँ, ऊँचे पर्वत और विशाल वृक्ष दोनों ओर से उछल रहे थे, जिससे पृथ्वी भ्रमित शोर और गड़गड़ाहट से भर गई थी।

8. [ मध्यप्रवाहवहदुल्मुकशूलशैलप्रासासिकुन्तशरतोमरमुद्गरौघा गङ्गोपमाम्बुवलितामरमन्दिरेण सर्वासु दिक्ष्वशनिवर्षनिकर्षणेन ॥ ८ ॥

madhyapravāhavahadulmukaśūlaśailaprāsāsikuntaśaratomaramudgaraughā gaṅgopamāmbuvalitāmaramandireṇa sarvāsu dikṣvaśanivarṣanikarṣaṇena || 8 ||

मध्यप्रवाहवहदुल्मुकशूलशैलप्रासासिकुन्तशरतोमरमुद्गरौघा गङ्गोपमाम्बुवलितामरमन्दिरेण सर्वासु दिक्ष्वशनिवर्षनिकर्षणेन ॥ ८ ॥

madhyapravāhavahadulmukaśūlaśailaprāsāsikuntaśaratomaramudgaraughā gaṅgopamāmbuvalitāmaramandireṇa sarvāsu dikṣvaśanivarṣanikarṣaṇena || 8 ||

The encampment of the gods, was beset by a magical flood of the demons, resembling the stream of the Ganges; while showers of firearms and missiles of all sorts, were hurled upon their heads from above. ]

देवताओं के शिविर में राक्षसों की जादुई बाढ़ आ गई, जो गंगा की धारा के समान थी ; और ऊपर से उनके सिरों पर तरह-तरह के आग्नेयास्त्रों और प्रक्षेपास्त्रों की वर्षा हो रही थी।

9. [ पृथ्व्यादिदारुणशरीरमपि प्रहारदानग्रहा गहनराशिशरीरकेव ।मायोपशाम्यति सुरासुरसिद्धसन्ना मायाकृतिः पुनरुदेति नचैव सैव ॥ ९ ॥

pṛthvyādidāruṇaśarīramapi prahāradānagrahā gahanarāśiśarīrakeva |

māyopaśāmyati surāsurasiddhasannā māyākṛtiḥ punarudeti nacaiva saiva || 9 ||

Many big bodies of the gods and demons, rose and fought and fell by turns, as the elemental bodies of earth and the other elements, rise to and disappear from view by the act of Maya or illusion. ]

देवताओं और दानवों के अनेक विशाल शरीर बारी-बारी से उठते, लड़ते और गिरते थे, जैसे पृथ्वी और अन्य तत्वों के मूल शरीर माया के प्रभाव से उठते और अदृश्य हो जाते हैं। (योद्धाओं के विशाल शरीर उसी प्रकार एक-दूसरे से लड़ते थे, जैसे विक्षुब्ध करने वाले तत्व एक-दूसरे से टकराते हैं)।

10. [ शैलोपमायुधविघट्टितभूधराणि रक्ताम्बुपूरपरिपूर्णमहार्णवानि ।

दैवासुरेन्द्रशवशैलविरूढकुन्ततालीवनानि ककुभां वदनानि चासन् ॥ १० ॥

śailopamāyudhavighaṭṭitabhūdharāṇi raktāmbupūraparipūrṇamahārṇavāni |

daivāsurendraśavaśailavirūḍhakuntatālīvanāni kakubhāṃ vadanāni cāsan || 10 ||

Big bombs broke the heads of mountains, and the earth became a vast sheet of blood like a sanguine sea. The heaps of dead bodies on both sides, rose as forests to the face of heaven. ]

बड़े-बड़े बमों ने पहाड़ों के शिखर तोड़ दिए, और धरती रक्त की एक विशाल चादर बन गई, मानो रक्त सागर हो। दोनों ओर लाशों के ढेर, जंगलों की तरह आकाश की ओर उठ रहे थे।

11. [ उद्गीर्णकुन्तशरशक्तिगदासिचक्रहेलानिगीर्णसुरदानवमुक्तशैला ।काषोल्लसत्क्रकचदन्तनखाग्रमाला जीवान्विता ह्यपतदायससिंहसृष्टिः ॥ ११ ॥

udgīrṇakuntaśaraśaktigadāsicakrahelānigīrṇasuradānavamuktaśailā |

kāṣollasatkrakacadantanakhāgramālā jīvānvitā hyapatadāyasasiṃhasṛṣṭiḥ || 11 ||

Living lions with iron bodies, and rows of saw-like teeth and nails white as Kasa flowers, were let loose by the magic art to roam rampant in the airy field; devouring the stones, flung by the gods and demons, and bursting out into shells and shots and many other weapons. ]

लोहे के शरीर वाले जीवित सिंह, और आरे के समान दांतों और कास के फूलों के समान सफेद नाखूनों की पंक्तियों को, जादुई कला द्वारा हवादार क्षेत्र में अनियंत्रित रूप से घूमने के लिए छोड़ दिया गया था; देवताओं और राक्षसों द्वारा फेंके गए पत्थरों को खाते हुए, और गोले, गोलियां और कई अन्य हथियार बनाते हुए।

12. [ उज्ज्वाललोचनविषज्वलनातपौघदिग्दाहदर्शितयुगान्तदिनेशसेना ।

उड्डीयमानपरिदीर्घमहामहीध्रमग्नाब्धिवद्विषधरावलिरुल्ललास ॥ १२ ॥

ujjvālalocanaviṣajvalanātapaughadigdāhadarśitayugāntadineśasenā |

uḍḍīyamānaparidīrghamahāmahīdhramagnābdhivadviṣadharāvalirullalāsa || 12 ||

The serpentine weapons flew with their mountainous shapes in the ocean of the sky; having their eyes flashing with their venomous heat, and burning with the fire of the twelve suns on the last day of desolation. ]

सर्प जैसे हथियार अपने पर्वताकार आकार के साथ आकाश रूपी सागर में उड़ रहे थे; उनकी आँखें उनकी विषैली गर्मी से चमक रही थीं, और वे प्रलय के अंतिम दिन के बारह सूर्यों की अग्नि से जल रहे थे।

13. [ उन्नादवज्रमकरोत्करकर्कशान्तःक्षुब्धाब्धिवीचिवलयैर्वलिताचलेन्द्रैः ।आसीज्जगत्सकलमेव सुसंकटाङ्गमावृत्तिभिर्विविधहेतिनदीप्रवाहैः ॥ १३ ॥

unnādavajramakarotkarakarkaśāntaḥkṣubdhābdhivīcivalayairvalitācalendraiḥ |āsījjagatsakalameva susaṃkaṭāṅgamāvṛttibhirvividhahetinadīpravāhaiḥ || 13 ||

The hydraulic engine sent forth floods of weapons, whirling as whirlpools, and sounding loud as the rattling thunder; and sweeping the hills and rocks in their current. ]

हाइड्रोलिक इंजन ने हथियारों की बाढ़ भेज दी, जो भँवरों की तरह घूमती थी, और गड़गड़ाहट की तरह ज़ोर से आवाज़ करती थी; और अपने प्रवाह में पहाड़ियों और चट्टानों को बहा ले जाती थी।

14. [ शैलास्त्रशस्त्रगरुडाचलचालितोच्चनागं महासुरगणाङ्गणमन्तरिक्षम् । आसीत्क्षणं जलधिभिः क्षणमग्निपूरैः पूर्णं क्षणं दिनकरैः क्षणमन्धकारैः ॥ १४ ॥

śailāstraśastragaruḍācalacālitoccanāgaṃ mahāsuragaṇāṅgaṇamantarikṣam |

āsītkṣaṇaṃ jaladhibhiḥ kṣaṇamagnipūraiḥ pūrṇaṃ kṣaṇaṃ dinakaraiḥ kṣaṇamandhakāraiḥ || 14 ||

The stone missiles which were thrown by the Garuda engine, to the aerial battle field of the gods, emitted at intervals water and fire, and sometimes shone as the sun, and at others became altogether dark. ] 

गरुड़ इंजन द्वारा देवताओं के हवाई युद्ध क्षेत्र में फेंके गए पत्थर के प्रक्षेपास्त्रों से बीच-बीच में जल और अग्नि निकलती थी, तथा कभी वे सूर्य के समान चमकते थे, तो कभी पूरी तरह से काले हो जाते थे।

15. [गरुडगुडगुडाकुलान्तरिक्षप्रविसृतहेतिहुताशपर्वतौघैः। जगदभवदसह्यकल्पकाले ज्वलितसुरालयभूतलान्तरालम् ॥ १५ ॥

garuḍaguḍaguḍākulāntarikṣapravisṛtahetihutāśaparvataughaiḥ |

jagadabhavadasahyakalpakāle jvalitasurālayabhūtalāntarālam || 15 ||

The Garuda weapons flew and roared in the sky, and the fire-arms spread a conflict of burning hills above; the burning towers of the gods fell upon the earth and, the world became as unendurable as in its conflagration on the last day. ]

गरुड़ के हथियार आकाश में उड़कर गर्जना करने लगे, और आग्नेयास्त्रों ने ऊपर जलती हुई पहाड़ियों का संघर्ष फैला दिया; देवताओं की जलती हुई मीनारें पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़ीं और संसार पिछले दिन की तरह असह्य हो गया।

दैत्य पृथ्वी की सतह से आकाश की ओर उछल पड़े, जैसे पक्षी पर्वतों की चोटियों से आकाश की ओर उड़ते हैं। देवता पृथ्वी पर ज़ोर से गिर पड़े, जैसे चट्टान का टुकड़ा ज़मीन पर तेज़ी से गिरता है।

16. [ उदपतन्नसुरावसुधातलाद्गगनमद्रितटादिव पक्षिणः । अतिबलादपतन्विबुधा भुवि प्रलयचालितशैलशिला इव ॥ १६ ॥

udapatannasurāvasudhātalādgaganamadritaṭādiva pakṣiṇaḥ |

atibalādapatanvibudhā bhuvi pralayacālitaśailaśilā iva || 16 ||

The demons jumped up to the sky from the surface of the earth, as birds fly to heaven from mountain tops. The gods fell violently on the earth, as the fragment of a rock falls precipitately on the ground. ]

दैत्य पृथ्वी की सतह से आकाश की ओर उछल पड़े, जैसे पक्षी पर्वतों की चोटियों से आकाश की ओर उड़ते हैं। देवता पृथ्वी पर ऐसे गिर पड़े, जैसे चट्टान का टुकड़ा अचानक ज़मीन पर गिरता है।

17. [ शरीररूढोन्नतहेतिवृक्षवनावलीलग्नमहाग्निदाहाः ।

सुरासुराः प्रापुरथाम्बरान्तः कल्पानिलान्दोलितशैलशोभाम् ॥ १७ ॥

śarīrarūḍhonnatahetivṛkṣavanāvalīlagnamahāgnidāhāḥ |surāsurāḥ prāpurathāmbarāntaḥ kalpānilāndolitaśailaśobhām || 17 ||

The long weapons sticking to the bodies of the deities and demons, were as bushes with their burning pain; thus their big statures appeared as rocks decorated with arbors growing upon them. ]

देवताओं और राक्षसों के शरीरों से चिपके हुए लंबे हथियार, उनकी जलन से पीड़ित झाड़ियों के समान थे; इस प्रकार उनकी बड़ी-बड़ी आकृतियाँ उन चट्टानों के समान प्रतीत होती थीं, जिन पर कुंजियाँ उगी हुई थीं।

18. [ सुरासुराद्रीन्द्रशरीरमुक्तै रक्तप्रवाहैरभितो भ्रमद्भिः । बभार पूर्णं परितोऽम्बरोऽद्रेः संध्याकरौघक्षतमङ्ग गङ्गाम् ॥ १८ ॥

surāsurādrīndraśarīramuktai raktapravāhairabhito bhramadbhiḥ |

babhāra pūrṇaṃ parito'mbaro'dreḥ saṃdhyākaraughakṣatamaṅga gaṅgām || 18 ||

The gods and demons, roving with their mountainous bodies, all streaming in blood, appeared as the evening clouds of heaven, pouring the purple floods of celestial Ganga. ]

देवता और दानव, अपने पर्वताकार शरीरों के साथ घूमते हुए, रक्त से लथपथ, स्वर्ग के संध्याकालीन बादलों के समान प्रकट हुए, जो दिव्य गंगा ( मंदाकिनी ) की बैंगनी बाढ़ बहा रहे थे।

19. [ गिरिवर्षणमम्बुवर्षणं विविधोग्रायुधवर्षणं तथा । विषमाशनिवर्षणं च ते सममन्योन्यमथाग्निवर्षणम् ॥ १९ ॥

girivarṣaṇamambuvarṣaṇaṃ vividhogrāyudhavarṣaṇaṃ tathā |

viṣamāśanivarṣaṇaṃ ca te samamanyonyamathāgnivarṣaṇam || 19 ||

Showers of weapons were falling as water-falls or showers of rain, and the tide of thunders flowed as fast as the fall of meteoric fire in promiscuous confusion. ]

शस्त्रों की वर्षा जलप्रपात या वर्षा की तरह हो रही थी, और गड़गड़ाहट की लहरें उल्कापिंड की आग की तरह तेजी से बह रही थीं।

20. [ अनयन्नयमार्गकोविदा दलिताशेषगिरीन्द्रभित्तयः । ससृजुश्च समं समन्ततः करिकुम्भेष्विव पुण्यवर्षणम् ॥ २० ॥

anayannayamārgakovidā dalitāśeṣagirīndrabhittayaḥ |sasṛjuśca samaṃ samantataḥ karikumbheṣviva puṇyavarṣaṇam || 20 ||

Those skilled in the arts, were pouring floods of purple fluids, mixed with the red clay of mountains, from the pipes of elephant's trunks; as they sputter the festive water of Phagua, mixed with the red powder (phaga) through the syringe (phichkari). (The pouring, of holy. ]

कला में निपुण लोग, हाथियों की सूंड की नालियों से, पहाड़ों की लाल मिट्टी में मिश्रित बैंगनी तरल पदार्थों की बाढ़ डाल रहे थे; जैसे वे लाल पाउडर (फगा) के साथ मिश्रित फगुआ के उत्सव के पानी को सिरिंज (फिचकारी) के माध्यम से छिड़क रहे थे। (पवित्र (होली) 

22. [ देवासुराः समरसंभ्रममाकुलास्ते अन्योन्यमङ्गदलनाकुलहेतिहस्ताः ।

नागेन्द्रडिम्भपृतनापृथुपीठपेषैः कीर्णश्रियो नभसि बभ्रमुरक्षिपन्तः ॥ २१ ॥

devāsurāḥ samarasaṃbhramamākulāste anyonyamaṅgadalanākulahetihastāḥ |

nāgendraḍimbhapṛtanāpṛthupīṭhapeṣaiḥ kīrṇaśriyo nabhasi babhramurakṣipantaḥ || 21 ||

The Devas and Asuras, though worried by one another, did not yet give up their hope of victory, but hurled the weapons from their hands for mutual annoyance; and riding on the broad backs of big elephants, they wandered in the air, spreading their effulgence all around. ]

देवता और असुर एक दूसरे से चिन्तित होने पर भी विजय की आशा नहीं छोड़ी, वरन् परस्पर क्रोध करने के लिए अपने-अपने अस्त्र-शस्त्र फेंक दिए; और विशाल हाथियों की चौड़ी पीठों पर सवार होकर वे चारों ओर अपना तेज फैलाते हुए वायु में विचरण करने लगे।

22. [ छिन्नैः शिरःकरभुजोरुभरैर्भ्रमद्भिराकाशकाष्ठशलभैरशिवैस्तदानीम् ।आसीज्जगज्जठरमभ्रभरैरिवोग्रैराभास्करस्थगितदिक्तटशैलजालम् ॥ २२ ॥

chinnaiḥ śiraḥkarabhujorubharairbhramadbhirākāśakāṣṭhaśalabhairaśivaistadānīm |

āsījjagajjaṭharamabhrabharairivograirābhāskarasthagitadiktaṭaśailajālam || 22 ||

They then wandered in the sky like flights of inauspicious locusts, with their bodies pierced in the heads, hands, arms, and breasts, and filled the vault of the world like the flying clouds, obscuring the sun and the sides of heaven, and the surface and heights of the earth. ]

तब वे अशुभ टिड्डियों के समान आकाश में विचरण करने लगे, उनके शरीर के सिर, हाथ, भुजाएँ और वक्षस्थल छिदे हुए थे, और वे उड़ते हुए बादलों के समान संसार के गुम्बद को भरकर सूर्य और आकाश के किनारों तथा पृथ्वी की सतह और ऊँचाइयों को ढकने लगे।

23. [ रटद्भटास्फोटकटिस्फुटद्भिः समीरितैर्हेतिकलासितौघैः । परस्पराघातहतैः पतद्भिर्जगाम शीर्णा दलशो धरित्री ॥ २३ ॥

raṭadbhaṭāsphoṭakaṭisphuṭadbhiḥ samīritairhetikalāsitaughaiḥ |

parasparāghātahataiḥ patadbhirjagāma śīrṇā dalaśo dharitrī || 23 ||

The earth was battered and rent to pieces by the fragments of broken weapons, falling from the waists of the combatants, who assailed one another with their loud shouts. ]

योद्धाओं की कमर से गिरते हुए टूटे हुए हथियारों के टुकड़ों से पृथ्वी क्षतिग्रस्त हो गई और टुकड़े-टुकड़े हो गई, वे जोर से चिल्लाते हुए एक दूसरे पर हमला कर रहे थे।

[24. अन्योन्यमायुधशिलाचलवृक्षवर्षैर्मेरुप्रमाणकठिनाङ्गनिघर्षणैश्च ।आसीद्रणं चटचटास्फुटदन्तरिक्षं कल्पक्षयान्तमिव भीमभरोग्रनादैः ॥ २४ ॥

anyonyamāyudhaśilācalavṛkṣavarṣairmerupramāṇakaṭhināṅganigharṣaṇaiśca |āsīdraṇaṃ caṭacaṭāsphuṭadantarikṣaṃ kalpakṣayāntamiva bhīmabharogranādaiḥ || 24 ||

The sky re-echoed to the thunder-claps of the mutual strokes of the weapons, the clattering of the stones and trees, and the blows of the warriors on one another, as it was the bustle of the day of universal destruction. ]

आकाश में शस्त्रों के परस्पर प्रहारों की गड़गड़ाहट, पत्थरों और वृक्षों की खड़खड़ाहट तथा योद्धाओं के एक-दूसरे पर प्रहारों की गड़गड़ाहट गूंज रही थी, मानो विश्वव्यापी विनाश के दिन की हलचल हो रही हो।

25. [ मत्तानिलक्षुब्धजलानलार्कदलद्वयं दीर्घसुरासुरौघम् ।

ब्रह्माण्डमाखण्डितकुड्यकोणसकालकल्पान्तकरालमासीत् ॥ २५ ॥

mattānilakṣubdhajalānalārkadaladvayaṃ dīrghasurāsuraugham |

brahmāṇḍamākhaṇḍitakuḍyakoṇasakālakalpāntakarālamāsīt || 25 ||

The disordered world seemed to approach its untimely end, by the blowing of the furious winds mixed with fire and water (as in the chaotic state); and the many suns of the deities and demons, shining above and below. ]

स्वर्ग के सभी कोने, अस्त्र-शस्त्रों की ध्वनि से, पर्वत शिखरों की तरह लुढ़कते हुए, सिंहों की तरह दहाड़ते हुए, और चारों ओर से बहती हवाओं से उड़ाए जाते हुए, जोर से चिल्ला रहे थे।

[26. भ्रान्तैर्भृशं भरितदिक्तटमद्रिकूटैरात्मप्रमाणघनहेतिहतै रणद्भिः कूजद्भिरार्तिभिरिवोग्रगुहोच्चवातैः क्रन्दद्भिरापतितसिंहरवैरदभ्रैः ॥ २६ ॥

bhrāntairbhṛśaṃ bharitadiktaṭamadrikūṭairātmapramāṇaghanahetihatai raṇadbhiḥ kūjadbhirārtibhirivograguhoccavātaiḥ krandadbhirāpatitasiṃharavairadabhraiḥ || 26 ||

भ्रान्तैर्भृशं भरितदिक्तटमद्रिकूटैरात्मप्रमाणघनहेतिहतै रणद्भिः कूजद्भिरार्तिभिरिवोग्रगुहोच्चवातैः क्रन्दद्भिरापतितसिंहरवैरदभ्रैः ॥ २६ ॥

bhrāntairbhṛśaṃ bharitadiktaṭamadrikūṭairātmapramāṇaghanahetihatai raṇadbhiḥ kūjadbhirārtibhirivograguhoccavātaiḥ krandadbhirāpatitasiṃharavairadabhraiḥ || 26 ||

All the quarters of heaven, seemed to be crying aloud, with the sounds of the hurling weapons, rolling as mountain peaks, roaring as lions, and borne by the blowing winds on all sides. ] 

ऐसा प्रतीत हो रहा था मानो आकाश के सभी कोने, अस्त्र-शस्त्रों की ध्वनि से, पर्वत शिखरों की तरह लुढ़कते हुए, सिंहों की तरह दहाड़ते हुए, तथा चारों ओर से बहती हवाओं से घिरे हुए, जोर-जोर से चिल्ला रहे हों

27. [ मायानदीजलधियोधघनाग्निदाहैर्वृक्षैः सुरासुरशवैरचलैः शिलोच्चैः । भ्रान्तेः शरासिशितशक्तिगदास्त्रशस्त्रैर्वातावकीर्णवनपर्णवदन्तरन्तः ॥ २७ ॥

māyānadījaladhiyodhaghanāgnidāhairvṛkṣaiḥ surāsuraśavairacalaiḥ śiloccaiḥ |

bhrānteḥ śarāsiśitaśaktigadāstraśastrairvātāvakīrṇavanaparṇavadantarantaḥ || 27 ||

The sky appeared as an ocean of illusion, burning with the bodies of the warriors like flaming trees, and rolling in surges of the dead bodies of the gods and demons, floating on it like mountains; while the skirts of the earth, seemed as forest, made by the clubs and lances and spears, and many other weapons incessantly falling upon them. ]

आकाश माया के सागर के समान प्रतीत हो रहा था, जो जलते हुए वृक्षों के समान योद्धाओं के शरीरों से जल रहा था, तथा देवताओं और दानवों के मृत शरीरों की लहरों से लोट रहा था, तथा उस पर पर्वतों के समान तैर रहा था; तथा पृथ्वी के किनारे, गदा, भालों और बर्छियों तथा अन्य अनेक अस्त्रों के निरन्तर प्रहार से बने हुए वन के समान प्रतीत हो रहे थे।

28. [ अद्रीन्द्रपक्षपरिमाणगमाक्षमोक्तदुर्वारहस्तिबलदारुणदेहकैर्द्राक् ।

आसीत्पतद्भटशरीरगिरीन्द्रवातविभ्रष्टदेवपुरपूर्णजलार्णवौघम् ॥ २८ ॥

adrīndrapakṣaparimāṇagamākṣamoktadurvārahastibaladāruṇadehakairdrāk |

āsītpatadbhaṭaśarīragirīndravātavibhraṣṭadevapurapūrṇajalārṇavaugham || 28 ||

The horizon was surrounded by the big and impenetrable line of demoniac bodies, resembling the chain of Sumeru mountains girding the earth; while the earth itself resembled the ocean filled with the mountainous bodies of fallen warriors, and towers of the celestial cities blown down by the winds. ]

क्षितिज राक्षसी शरीरों की बड़ी और अभेद्य पंक्ति से घिरा हुआ था, जो पृथ्वी को घेरे हुए सुमेरु पर्वत की श्रृंखला के समान थी; जबकि पृथ्वी स्वयं गिरे हुए योद्धाओं के पर्वतीय शरीरों और हवाओं से उड़ाए गए दिव्य नगरों के बुर्जों से भरे हुए समुद्र के समान थी।

29. [ घनघुंघुमपूरितान्तरिक्षा क्षतजक्षालितभूधरा धरा च ।रुधिरह्रदवृत्तिवर्तिनी वा भुवनाभोगगुहा तदाकुलाभूत् ॥ २९ ॥

ghanaghuṃghumapūritāntarikṣā kṣatajakṣālitabhūdharā dharā ca |

rudhirahradavṛttivartinī vā bhuvanābhogaguhā tadākulābhūt || 29 ||

The sky was filled with violent sounds, and the earth and its mountains, were washed by torrents of blood;the blood-sucking goblins danced on all sides, and filled the cavity of the world with confusion. ]

आकाश भयंकर ध्वनियों से भर गया, और पृथ्वी तथा उसके पर्वत रक्त की धाराओं से धुल गए; रक्त चूसने वाले भूत सब ओर नाच रहे थे, और संसार की गुहा को भ्रम से भर रहे थे।

30. अनन्तदृक्प्रसृतविकारकारिणी क्षयोदयोन्मुखसुखदुःखशंसिनी ।

रणक्रियासुरसुरघट्टसंकटा तदाभवत्खलु सदृशीह संसृतेः ॥ ३० ॥

anantadṛkprasṛtavikārakāriṇī kṣayodayonmukhasukhaduḥkhaśaṃsinī |
raṇakriyāsurasuraghaṭṭasaṃkaṭā tadābhavatkhalu sadṛśīha saṃsṛteḥ || 30 ||

The dreadful warfare of the gods and Titans, resembled the tumults which rage through the endless space of the world, and that rise and fall with the vicissitudes of pleasure and pain, which it is incessantly subject to.

देवताओं और दानवों का भयंकर युद्ध, संसार के अनंत अंतरिक्ष में व्याप्त कोलाहल के समान था, जो सुख और दुःख के उतार-चढ़ाव के साथ उठता और गिरता रहता है, जिससे वह निरंतर ग्रस्त है। ( अर्थात् संसार अच्छाई और बुराई के निरंतर युद्ध का क्षेत्र है, देवताओं और दानवों के युद्धक्षेत्र के समान)।
