वसिष्ठ ने कहा :—

1. [श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।

तस्मिंस्तदा वर्तमाने घोरे समरविभ्रमे ।

सर्वारिसैन्यनाशार्थमेकं स्वबलशान्तये ॥ १ ॥

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca |

tasmiṃstadā vartamāne ghore samaravibhrame |

sarvārisainyanāśārthamekaṃ svabalaśāntaye || 1 ||

Vasishtha said:—As the tide of war was rolling violently with a general massacre on both sides, the belligerent monarchs thought on the means of saving their own forces from the impending ruin.]

जब युद्ध की लहर दोनों तरफ सामान्य नरसंहार के साथ हिंसक रूप से बढ़ रही थी, तो युद्धरत राजाओं ने बाकी विनाश से लेकर सेना तक के उपायों पर विचार किया।

2. [सस्मार स्मृतिमानन्तो महोदाराधिधैर्यभृत् ।

अस्त्रमस्त्रेश्वरं श्रीमद्वैष्णवं शंकरोपमम् ॥ २ ॥

sasmāra smṛtimānanto mahodārādhidhairyabhṛt |

astramastreśvaraṃ śrīmadvaiṣṇavaṃ śaṃkaropamam || 2 |

The magnanimous Sindhuraja, who was armed with patience, called to his mind the Vaishnava weapon, which was the greatest of arms and as powerful as Siva (Jove) himself.]

उदार सिंधुराज, जो साहस से लैस थे, उन्होंने अपने मन में वैष्णव हथियार का स्मरण किया, जो कि सबसे महान हथियार था और स्वयं शिव (जौव) के समान शक्तिशाली था।

3. [अथ योऽसौ शरस्तेन वैष्णवास्त्राभिमन्त्रितः ।

मुक्तस्तस्य फलप्रान्तादुल्मुका दिवि निर्ययौ ॥ ३ ॥

atha yo'sau śarastena vaiṣṇavāstrābhimantritaḥ |

muktastasya phalaprāntādulmukā divi niryayau || 3 ||

No sooner was the Vaishnava weapon hurled by him with his best judgement (mantra), than it emitted a thousand sparks of fire from its flaming blade on all sides.] 

जैसे ही वे अपने सिद्धांत निर्णय (मंत्र) वैष्णव हथियार हथियार के साथ, उसके ब्लेड ब्लेड से एक हजार चिनगारियन माउंट आँगन की ओर।

4. [पङ्क्तयः स्फारचक्राणां शतार्कीकृतदिक्तटाः ।

गदानामभियान्तीनां शतवंशीकृताम्बराः ॥ ४ ॥

paṅktayaḥ sphāracakrāṇāṃ śatārkīkṛtadiktaṭāḥ |

gadānāmabhiyāntīnāṃ śatavaṃśīkṛtāmbarāḥ || 4 ||

These sparks enlarged into balls, as big and bright as to shine like hundreds of suns in the sky, and others flew as the lengthy shafts of cudgels in the air.]

ये चिंगारीयाँ बड़ी-बड़ी गोलों में बदल गईं, इतनी बड़ी और चमकीली आकाश में सैकड़ों सूर्यों के समान चमकने वाली झीलें, और कुछ चिंगारीयाँ लंबी डंडों की तरह हवा में उड़ने वाली झीलों में बदल गईं।

5. [वज्राणां शतधाराणां तृणराजीकृताम्बराः ।

पट्टिशानां सपद्मानां दीनवृक्षीकृताम्बराः ॥ ५ ॥

vajrāṇāṃ śatadhārāṇāṃ tṛṇarājīkṛtāmbarāḥ |paṭṭiśānāṃ sapadmānāṃ dīnavṛkṣīkṛtāmbarāḥ || 5 ||

Some of them filled the wide field of the firmament with thunderbolts as thick as the blades of grass, and others overspread the lake of heaven, with battle axes as a bed of lotuses.

उनमें से कुछ ने आकाश के विस्तृत क्षेत्र को घास के अवशेषों के समान मोटे वज्रों से भर दिया, और अन्य ने स्वर्ग के शिखर को कमल के समान युद्ध कुल्हाड़ियों से भर दिया।

6. [शराणां शितधाराणां पुष्पजालीकृताम्बराः ।

खङ्गानां श्यामलाङ्गानां पत्रराशीकृताम्बराः ॥ ६ ॥

śarāṇāṃ śitadhārāṇāṃ puṣpajālīkṛtāmbarāḥ |khaṅgānāṃ śyāmalāṅgānāṃ patrarāśīkṛtāmbarāḥ || 6 ||

These poured forth showers of pointed arrows spreading as a net-work in the sky, and darted the sable blades of swords, scattered as the leaves of trees in the air.]

ये नुकीले बाणों की वर्षा करते हुए आकाश में जल की तरह गिरते रहे थे, और तलवारों के काले ब्लेड हवा में पेड़ों की तरह गिरते रहे थे।

7. [अथ राजा द्वितीयोऽपि वैष्णवास्त्रस्य शान्तये ।

ददौ वैष्णवमेवास्त्रं शत्रुनिष्ठावपूरकम् ॥ ७ ॥

atha rājā dvitīyo'pi vaiṣṇavāstrasya śāntaye |dadau vaiṣṇavamevāstraṃ śatruniṣṭhāvapūrakam || 7 ||

At this time, the rival king Viduratha, sent forth another Vaishnava weapon for repelling the former, and removing the reliance of his foe in his foible.]

इस समय, प्रतिद्वंद्वी राजा विदुरथ ने पूर्व को पीछे हटा दिया और अपने शत्रुओं की अपनी कमजोरी को दूर करने के लिए एक और वैष्णव हथियार भेजा।

8. [ततोऽपि निर्ययुर्नद्यो हेतीनां हतहेतयः ।

शरशक्तिगदाप्रासपट्टिशादिपयोमयाः ॥ ८ ॥

tato'pi niryayurnadyo hetīnāṃ hatahetayaḥ |

śaraśaktigadāprāsapaṭṭiśādipayomayāḥ || 8 ||

It sent forth a stream of weapons counteracting those of the other, and overflowing in currents of arrows and pikes, clubs and axes and missiles of various kinds.]

एक अन्य प्रकार के प्रक्षेपास्त्रों की धारा में तीर, भाले, गदा, कुल्हाडोर और विभिन्न प्रकार के प्रक्षेपास्त्रों की प्रतिकृति बनाने वाले।

9. [शस्त्रास्त्रसरितां तासां व्योम्नि युद्धमवर्तत ।

रोदोरन्ध्रक्षयकरं कुलशैलेन्द्रदारणम् ॥ ९ ॥

śastrāstrasaritāṃ tāsāṃ vyomni yuddhamavartata |

rodorandhrakṣayakaraṃ kulaśailendradāraṇam || 9 ||

These weapons struggled with and justled against one another. They split the vault of heaven with their clattering, and cracked like loud thunder claps cleaving the mountain cliffs.]

ये अस्त्र-शास्त्र माहिर में योद्धा और एक-दूसरे से टकराए थे। अपने गड़गड़ाहट से वे आकाश के गुंबद को चीरते थे, और पहाड़ों के चट्टानों को चीरते हुए तेजी से गड़गड़ाहट की तरह चटकते थे।

10. [शरपातितशूलासिखड्गकुट्टितपट्टिशम् ।

मुसलप्रतनाप्रासशूलशातितशक्तिकम् ॥ १० ॥

śarapātitaśūlāsikhaḍgakuṭṭitapaṭṭiśam |

musalapratanāprāsaśūlaśātitaśaktikam || 10 ||

The arrows pierced the rods and swords, and the swords hewed down the axes and lances to pieces. The malls and mallets drove the missiles, and the pikes broke the spears.]

बाणों ने चाकों और तलवारों में छेद कर दिया, और तलवारों ने कुलहाड़ियाँ और भालों ने टुकड़े-टुकड़े कर दिये। हथौड़ों और हथौड़ों ने प्रक्षेपास्त्रों को तोड़ दिया, और भालों ने भालों (शक्तियों) को तोड़ दिया।

11. [शराम्बुराशिमथनमत्तमुद्गरमन्दरम् ।

गदावदनतो युक्तं दुर्वारास्त्रिनिभासिनि ॥ ११ ॥

śarāmburāśimathanamattamudgaramandaram |gadāvadanato yuktaṃ durvārāstrinibhāsini || 11 ||

The mallets like Mandara rocks, broke and drove away the rushing arrows as waves of the sea, and the resistless swords broke to pieces by striking at the maces.] 

मंदार चट्टानों के समान हथौड़े समुद्र की लहरों के समान वेगवान बाणों को दूर भाग देते थे, और अप्रतिरोधक तलवारें गदाओं पर प्रहार करके टुकड़े-टुकड़े हो जाते थे।

12. [रिष्टारिष्टप्रशमनभ्रमत्कुन्तेन्दुमण्डलम् ।

प्रासप्रसरसंरब्धप्रोद्यतान्तकृतान्तकम् ॥ १२ ॥

riṣṭāriṣṭapraśamanabhramatkuntendumaṇḍalam |

prāsaprasarasaṃrabdhaprodyatāntakṛtāntakam || 12 ||

The lances revolved like the halo of the moon, repelling the black sword-blades as darkness, and the swift missiles flashed as the destructive fires of Yama.]

भाले चंद्रमा के प्रभातमंडल की तरह दिखाई देते थे, जो अंधेरे के रूप में काली तलवारों को पीछे हटाते थे, और तेज मिसाइलें यम की विनाशकारी आग के रूप में चमकती थीं।

13. [चक्रावकुण्ठितोर्ध्वास्त्रं सर्वायुधक्षयंकरम् ।

शब्दस्फुटद्विरिञ्चाण्डं घातभग्नकुलाचलम् ॥ १३ ॥

cakrāvakuṇṭhitordhvāstraṃ sarvāyudhakṣayaṃkaram |

śabdasphuṭadviriñcāṇḍaṃ ghātabhagnakulācalam || 13 ||

The whirling disks were destroying all other weapons;they stunned the world by their noise, and broke the mountains by their strokes.]

अन्य सभी सेवाओं को नष्ट कर रहे थे; उन्होंने अपने तटों से दुनिया को चकित कर दिया, और अपने तटों से चट्टानों को तोड़ दिया।

14. [धारानिकृत्तशस्त्रौघमस्त्रयोर्युध्यमानयोः ।

मदस्त्रवारणेनेव वज्राविजरपर्वतम् ॥ १४ ॥

dhārānikṛttaśastraughamastrayoryudhyamānayoḥ |madastravāraṇeneva vajrāvijaraparvatam || 14 ||

The clashing weapons were breaking one another in numbers, and Viduratha defeated the arms of Sindhu, as the steadfast mountain defies the thunders of Indra.]

विरोधाभासी हथियार संख्या में एक दूसरे को तोड़ रहे थे, और विदूरथ ने सिंधु के भुजाओं को परास्त कर दिया था, जैसे कि दृढ़ पर्वत इंद्र की गर्जना को चुनौती देता है।

15. [शङ्कुशङ्कितसूत्कारकाशिशूलशिलाशतम् ।

भुशुण्डीनिर्जितोद्दण्डभिन्दिपालोग्रमण्डलम् ॥ १५ ॥

śaṅkuśaṅkitasūtkārakāśiśūlaśilāśatam |

bhuśuṇḍīnirjitoddaṇḍabhindipālogramaṇḍalam || 15 ||

The truncheons (Sankus) were blowing away the falchions (asis); and the spontoons (sulas) were warding off the stones of the slings. The crow bars (bhusundis) broke down the pointed heads of the pikes]

पुजारी ( संकु ) असी ( असी ) को उड़ा रहे थे; और सुल ( सुल ) गोफन के पत्थरों को दूर भाग रहे थे। भुशुंडियों ने भालों (भिंढीपालों) के नुकीले सिरों को तोड़ डाला।

16. [परशूलकराभैकपरशूलैकलम्पितम् ।

वहदुच्छिन्नचञ्चूरचारणं शत्रुवारणम् ॥ १६ ॥

paraśūlakarābhaikaparaśūlaikalampitam |vahaducchinnacañcūracāraṇaṃ śatruvāraṇam || 16 ||

The iron rods of the enemy (parasulas) were broken by tridents (trisulas) of Siva, and the hostile arms were falling down by their crushing one another to pieces.]

 शिव के त्रिशूलों शत्रुओं के लोहे के दंड (परशु) से टूट गए और शत्रुओं की भुजाएं एक-दूसरे को कुचलकर टुकड़े-टुकड़े हो गईं।

17. [स्फुटच्चटचटास्फोटरुद्धत्त्रिपथगारयम् ।

हेत्यस्त्रीचूर्णसंभारमहाधूमवितानकम् ॥ १७ ॥

sphuṭaccaṭacaṭāsphoṭaruddhattripathagārayam |

hetyastrīcūrṇasaṃbhāramahādhūmavitānakam || 17 ||

The clattering shots stopped the course of the heavenly stream, and the combustion of powder filled the air with smoke.]

बारूद की आवाज ने आकाशीय धारा का मार्ग रोक दिया और बारूद के दहन से हवा के बहाव को रोक दिया गया।

18. [अन्योन्यशस्त्रसंघट्टाद्भ्रमज्जालोल्लसत्तडित् ।

शब्दस्फुटद्विरिञ्चाण्डं धातमग्नकुलाचलम् ॥ १८ ॥

anyonyaśastrasaṃghaṭṭādbhramajjālollasattaḍit |śabdasphuṭadviriñcāṇḍaṃ dhātamagnakulācalam || 18 ||

The clashing of dashing weapons lightened the sky like lightnings, their clattering cracked the worlds like thunderclaps, and their shock split and broke the mountains like thunderbolts.]

प्रचंड अस्त्र-शस्त्रों की टक्कर से आकाश बिजली की तरह चमक उठा, उनका गड़गड़ाहट से संसार वज्र की तरह फट गया, और उनका नृत्य पर्वत वज्र की तरह टूट गया।

19. [धारानिकृत्तशस्त्रौघमस्त्रयोर्युध्यमानयोः ।

मदस्त्रवारणेनैव कालोपायोऽचलात्मनः ॥ १९ ॥

dhārānikṛttaśastraughamastrayoryudhyamānayoḥ |madastravāraṇenaiva kālopāyo'calātmanaḥ || 19 ||

Thus were the warring weapons breaking one another by their concussion, and protracting the engagement by their mutual overthrow.]

इस प्रकार युद्ध करने वाले हथियार एक दूसरे को हथियार से तोड़ रहे थे, और एक दूसरे को युद्ध करके हथियार खींच रहे थे।

20. [अयं कियद्बल इति सिन्धौ तिष्ठति हेलया ।

विदूरथोऽस्त्रमाग्नेयं तत्याजाशनिशब्दवत् ॥ २० ॥

ayaṃ kiyadbala iti sindhau tiṣṭhati helayā |vidūratho'stramāgneyaṃ tatyājāśaniśabdavat || 20 ||

As Sindhu was standing still in defiance of the prowess of his adversary, Viduratha lifted his own fire-arm, and fired it with a thundering sound.]

जब सिंधु ने अपने विरोधी के विरोध को चुनौती देते हुए स्थिर रुख अपनाया, तब विदूरथ ने अपना अग्नियास्त्र उठाया और गर्जन के साथ उसके साथ चला दिया।

21. [ज्वालयामास स रथं सिन्धोः कक्षमिवारसम् ।

एतस्मिन्नन्तरे व्योम्नि हेतिनिर्विवरोदरे ॥ २१ ॥

jvālayāmāsa sa rathaṃ sindhoḥ kakṣamivārasam |etasminnantare vyomni hetinirvivarodare || 21 ||

It set the war chariot of Sindhu on fire like a heap of hay on the plain, while the Vaishnava weapons filled the etherial sphere with their meteoric blaze]

सिंधु के युद्ध रथ को मैदान में घास के ढेर की तरह आग लगा दी, जबकि वैष्णव ने आकाशीय क्षेत्र को अपने उल्कापिंड की गहराई से भर दिया।

22. [ससन्नाह इव प्रावृट्पयोदतटिनीव यः ।

अस्त्रे राज्ञोः क्षणं कृत्वा युद्धं परमदारुणम् ॥ २२ ॥

sasannāha iva prāvṛṭpayodataṭinīva yaḥ |astre rājñoḥ kṣaṇaṃ kṛtvā yuddhaṃ paramadāruṇam || 22 ||

The two Kings were thus engaged in fierce fighting with each other, the one darting his weapons like drops of raging rain, and the other hurling his arms like currents of a deluging river.]

इस प्रकार दोनों राजा भयंकर युद्ध करने लगे। एक राजा प्रचंड सागर की धारा के समान अपने अस्त्र-शास्त्र को फेंक रहे थे, और दूसरे राजा प्रलयंकारी नदी की धारा के समान अपने अस्त्र को फेंक रहे थे।

23. [अन्योन्यं शममायाते सवीर्ये सुभटाविव ।

एतस्मिन्नन्तरे सोऽग्नी रथं कृत्वा तु भस्मसात् ॥ २३ ॥

anyonyaṃ śamamāyāte savīrye subhaṭāviva |etasminnantare so'gnī rathaṃ kṛtvā tu bhasmasāt || 23 ||

The two Kings were thus harassing each other like two brave champions in their contest, when the chariot of Sindhu was reduced to ashes by its flame.]

इस प्रकार दोनों राजा एक दूसरे के साथ युद्ध में दो वीर योद्धाओं के समान आक्रमण दे रहे थे, उसी समय सिंधु का रथ उसके रथ से भस्म हो गया था।

24. [प्राप दग्ध्वा वनं सिन्धुं मृगेन्द्रमिव कन्दरात् ।

सिन्धुरभ्यासतोऽग्न्यस्त्रं वारुणास्त्रेण शामयन् ॥ २४ ॥

prāpa dagdhvā vanaṃ sindhuṃ mṛgendramiva kandarāt |

sindhurabhyāsato'gnyastraṃ vāruṇāstreṇa śāmayan || 24 ||

He then fled to the woods like a lion from its cavern in the mountain, and repelled the fire that pursued him by his aqueous weapons.]

फिर वह पर्वत की गुफाओं से सिंह की तरह जंगल में भाग गया, और उसके जल-शास्त्रों से पीछे की ओर उठी अग्नि को पीछे हटा दिया गया।

25. [रथं त्यक्त्वावनिं प्राप्य खड्गास्फोटकवानभूत् ।

अक्ष्णोर्निमेषमात्रेण रथाश्वानां रिपोः खुरान् ॥ २५ ॥

rathaṃ tyaktvāvaniṃ prāpya khaḍgāsphoṭakavānabhūt |

akṣṇornimeṣamātreṇa rathāśvānāṃ ripoḥ khurān || 25 ||

After losing his car and alighting on the ground, he brandished his sword and cut off the hoofs and heels of the horses of his enemy's chariot in the twinkling of an eye.]

अपना रथ खोकर और जमीन पर उतरकर, वह अपनी तलवारें खींचता और पाल झपकते ही अपने शत्रुओं के रथों के खुर और एडियां काटता है।

26. [लुलाव करवालेन मृणालानीव लाघवात् ।

विदूरथोऽपि विरथो बभूवास्फोटकासिमान् ॥ २६ ॥

lulāva karavālena mṛṇālānīva lāghavāt |vidūratho'pi viratho babhūvāsphoṭakāsimān || 26 ||

He hacked every thing that came before him like the lean stalks of lotuses; when Viduratha also left his chariot with his asi (ensis) in hand.]

उन्होंने अपने सामने आने वाली हर चीज को कमल के डबले सेकल्स की तरह काटा; जब विदूरथ भी अपने एएसआई (एनसिस) को हाथ में लेकर अपने रथ से निकले पड़े।

27. [समायुधौ समोत्साहौ चेरतुर्मण्डलानि तौ ।

खड्गौ क्रकचतां यातौ मिथः प्रहरतोस्तयोः ॥ २७ ॥

samāyudhau samotsāhau ceraturmaṇḍalāni tau |khaḍgau krakacatāṃ yātau mithaḥ praharatostayoḥ || 27 ||

Both equally brave and compeers to one another in their skill in warfare, turned about in their rounds, and scraped their swords into saws by mutual strokes on one another.]

दोनों समान रूप से वीर थे और युद्ध कौशल में एक दूसरे के समकक्ष थे, वे अपने-अपने चक्कर में घूम रहे थे और एक दूसरे युद्ध में अपनी तलवारें लेकर बदल रहे थे।

28. [दन्तमालेयमस्येव बले चर्वयतः प्रजाः ।

शक्तिमादाय चिक्षेप खङ्गं त्यक्त्वा विदूरथः ॥ २८ ॥

dantamāleyamasyeva bale carvayataḥ prajāḥ |śaktimādāya cikṣepa khaṅgaṃ tyaktvā vidūrathaḥ || 28 ||

With their denticulated weapons, they tore the bodies of their enemies like fishes crushed under the teeth, when Viduratha dropt down his broken sword, and darted his javelin against his adversary.]

जब विदूरथ ने अपनी टूटी-फूटी तलवारें नीचे गिरा दी और अपने विरोधी पर भाला शैली में, तब उन्होंने अपने दांतेदार स्थिरता से अपने शत्रुओं के शरीर को दांतों से कुचली हुई मछलियां की तरह की संरचनाएं डालीं।

29. [सिन्ध्वम्बुघर्घरारावो महोत्पात इवाशनिः ।

अविच्छिन्ना समायाता पतिता सास्य वक्षसि ॥ २९ ॥

sindhvambughargharārāvo mahotpāta ivāśaniḥ |avicchinnā samāyātā patitā sāsya vakṣasi || 29 ||

It fell with a rattling noise on the bosom of Sindhu (the king), as a flaming meteor falls rumbling in the breast of the sea.]

यह सिंधु (राजा) की छाती पर एक भयंकर आवाज़ के साथ गिरा है, जैसे एक गंभीर उल्का समुद्र (सिंधु) की छाती में गड़गड़ाहट के साथ गिरता है।

30. [अप्रियस्य यथा भर्तुरनिच्छन्ती स्वकामिनी ।

तेन शक्तिप्रहारेण नासौ मरणमाप्तवान् ॥ ३० ॥

apriyasya yathā bharturanicchantī svakāminī |tena śaktiprahāreṇa nāsau maraṇamāptavān || 30 ||

But the weapon fell back by hitting upon his breast plate, as a damsel flies back from the embrace of a lover deemed an unfit match for her.]

बुरा अस्त्र उसके वक्षफलक से स्तम्भकर पीछे की ओर हट गया है, जैसे कोई भी अपने पूर्वज प्रेमी के एलिंगन से पीछे की ओर हट जाता है।

31. [केवलं रुधिरव्रातं नागो जलमिवात्यजत् ।

तद्देशलीला तं दृष्ट्वा भग्नं तम इवेन्दुना ॥ ३१ ॥

kevalaṃ rudhiravrātaṃ nāgo jalamivātyajat |taddeśalīlā taṃ dṛṣṭvā bhagnaṃ tama ivendunā || 31 ||

Its shock made Sindhu throw out a flood of blood from his lungs, resembling the water spout let out from the trunk of an elephant.]

इसके उपाय से सिंधु के फेफड़े से रक्त की सूजन बढ़ गई, जो हाथी की सूंड से निकला पानी के फव्वारे के समान था।

32. [सविकासघनानन्दा पूर्वलीलामुवाच ह ।

देवि पश्य नृसिंहेन हतो भर्त्रायमावयोः ॥ ३२ ॥

savikāsaghanānandā pūrvalīlāmuvāca ha |devi paśya nṛsiṃhena hato bhartrāyamāvayoḥ || 32 ||

Seeing this, the native Lila cried with joy to her sister Lila: see here the demon Sindhu killed by our lion-like husband.]

इसे देखकर मूल रेजिडेंट लीला ने अपनी बहन लीला से खुशी से कहा: यहां देखिए, हमारे सिंह जैसे पति राक्षस सिंधु से शादी हो गई है।

33. [शक्तिकोटिनखैर्दैत्यः सिन्धुरुद्घुरकन्धरः ।

सरःस्थलस्थनागेन्द्रकरफूत्कृतवारिवत् ॥ ३३ ॥

śaktikoṭinakhairdaityaḥ sindhurudghurakandharaḥ |

saraḥsthalasthanāgendrakaraphūtkṛtavārivat || 33 ||

Sindhu is slain by the javelin of our lion-like lord, like the wicked demon by the nails of the lion-god Nrisinha, and he is spouting forth his blood like the stream of water, thrown out by the trunk of an elephant from a pool.]

सिंधु हमारे सिंह-समान भगवान के भाले से मारा गया था, जैसे दुष्ट राक्षस सिंह-देव नृसिंह के वीर से मारा गया था, और वह अपना रक्त उगल रहा है जैसे हाथी के सूंड द्वारा तालाब से जल की धारा को उड़ा दिया गया था।

34. [पिष्टो रसोऽस्य निर्याति रक्तं चुलचुलारवैः ।

हा कष्टं रथमानीतं सिन्धुरारोढुमुद्यतः ॥ ३४ ॥

piṣṭo raso'sya niryāti raktaṃ culaculāravaiḥ |hā kaṣṭaṃ rathamānītaṃ sindhurāroḍhumudyataḥ || 34 ||

But alas! this Sindhu is trying to mount on another car, although bleeding so profusely from his mouth and nostrils, as to raise a wheezing (chulchulu) sound.]

लेकिन अफ़सोस! यह सिंधु दूसरे रथ पर सवार होकर की कोशिश कर रहा है, हालांकि उसके मुंह और नाक से इतना खून बह रहा है कि घरघराहट (चुलचुलु) की आवाज आ रही है।

35. [सौवर्णं मैरवं शृङ्गं पुष्करावर्तको यथा ।

पश्य देवि रथोऽस्यासौ मुद्गरेण विचूर्णितः ॥ ३५ ॥

sauvarṇaṃ mairavaṃ śṛṅgaṃ puṣkarāvartako yathā |paśya devi ratho'syāsau mudgareṇa vicūrṇitaḥ || 35 ||

Lo there! our lord Viduratha breaking down the golden mountings of his car with the blows of his mallet, as the thundering clouds—Pushkara and Avarta break down the gold peaks of Sumeru.]

लो यहाँ! हमारे भगवान विदुरथ ने अपनी कार के पत्थरों को अपने मैलेट के वार के साथ तोड़ दिया, क्योंकि थंडरिंग क्लाउड्स- पुहारा और अवतार सुमेरू की सोने की चोटियों को तोड़ते हैं।

36. [भ्रमत्पार्थनिपातेन सौवर्णं नगरं यथा ।

प्रवृत्तो रथमारोढुमानीतं पतिरेष मे ॥ ३६ ॥

bhramatpārthanipātena sauvarṇaṃ nagaraṃ yathā |pravṛtto rathamāroḍhumānītaṃ patireṣa me || 36 ||

See this Sindhu now mounting on another carriage, which is now brought before him, and decorated as the splendid seat of a Gandharva.] 

इस सिंधु को अब एक अन्य रथ पर चढ़ते देखा गया है, जो अब सामने आया है, और एक गंधर्व के शानदार आसन के रूप में प्रस्तुत किया गया है।

37. [कष्टं वज्रमिवेन्द्रेण मुसलं सिन्धुनेक्षितम् ।

जवात्पतिः प्रयातो मे सैन्धवं मुसलायुधम् ॥ ३७ ॥

kaṣṭaṃ vajramivendreṇa musalaṃ sindhunekṣitam |javātpatiḥ prayāto me saindhavaṃ musalāyudham || 37 ||

Alack! our lord is now made the mark of Sindhu's mallet darted as a thunder bolt against him; but lo! how he flies off and avoids the deadly blow of Sindhu.]

अफ़सोस! हमारे स्वामी अब सिंधु के वज्र के समान प्रहार के निशान बन गये हैं; उत्तर देखें! वे कैसे उड़ते हैं और सिंधु के घातक प्रहार से बच जाते हैं।

38. [वञ्चयित्वा विलासेन रथमारुह्य लाघवात् ।

हा धिक्कष्टमसौ सिन्धुरार्यपुत्ररथं रयात् ॥ ३८ ॥

vañcayitvā vilāsena rathamāruhya lāghavāt |hā dhikkaṣṭamasau sindhurāryaputrarathaṃ rayāt || 38 ||

Huzza! how nimbly he has got up upon his own car; but woe is to me! that Sindhu has overtaken him in his flight.]

वाह! वह फुर्ती से अपने रथ पर चढ़ गया; बुरा मुझे दुख है! कि सिंधु ने उसे भागते हुए पकड़ लिया।

39. [हरिश्वभ्रमिवारूढं प्लवेनोर्ध्वमिव द्रुमम् ।

क्रीडित्वा पीडयामास शरवर्षैर्विदूरथम् ॥ ३९ ॥

hariśvabhramivārūḍhaṃ plavenordhvamiva drumam |

krīḍitvā pīḍayāmāsa śaravarṣairvidūratham || 39 ||

He mounts on his car as a hunter climbs on a tree, and pierces my husband, as a bird-catcher does a parrot hidden in its hollow, with his pointed arrow.]

जैसे कोई शिकारी द्वीप पर चढ़ता है, वैसे ही अपने रथ पर चढ़ता है और मेरे पति को उसी प्रकार छेदा जाता है, जैसे कोई पक्षी मछली पकड़ने वाला अपने नुकीले बाण से अपने बिल में स्थित तोते को छेद देता है।

40. [छिन्नध्वजं छिन्नरथं छिन्नाश्वं छिन्नसारथिम् ।

छिन्नकार्मुकवर्माणं भिन्नसर्वाङ्गमाकुलम् ॥ ४० ॥

chinnadhvajaṃ chinnarathaṃ chinnāśvaṃ chinnasārathim |

chinnakārmukavarmāṇaṃ bhinnasarvāṅgamākulam || 40 ||

Behold his car is broken down and its flags flung aside; his horses are hurt and the driver is driven away. His bow is broken and his armour is shattered, and his whole body is full of wounds.]

देखिये, उसका रथ टूट गया है और उसके झंडे उड़ गये हैं; उसके घोड़े घायल हो गए और सारथी भाग गया। उसका धनुर्विद्या टूट गया है और उसका कवच छिन्न-भिन्न हो गया है, और उसका सारा शरीर कम्पलीट भर गया है।

41. [हृदि स्फोटशिलापट्टदृढे पीवरमूर्धनि ।

भित्त्वा वज्रसमैर्बाणैः पातयत्येव भूतले ॥ ४१ ॥

hṛdi sphoṭaśilāpaṭṭadṛḍhe pīvaramūrdhani |bhittvā vajrasamairbāṇaiḥ pātayatyeva bhūtale || 41 ||

His strong breast-plate is broken also by slabs of stone and his big head is pierced by pointed arrows. Behold him thrown down on earth, all mangled in blood.]

उसके प्लांटर चेस्ट के भी टुकड़े टुकड़े कर दिए गए और उसके विशाल सिर नुकीले बानों से छेद कर दिया गया। देखिये, वह खून से धरती पर गिरा हुआ है।

42. [अथान्यं रथमानीतं कृच्छ्रेण प्राप्य चेतनाम् ।

खङ्गेनारोहतोऽस्यांसं छिन्नं भर्तुर्विलोकय ॥ ४२ ॥

athānyaṃ rathamānītaṃ kṛcchreṇa prāpya cetanām |

khaṅgenārohato'syāṃsaṃ chinnaṃ bharturvilokaya || 42 ||

Look with what difficulty he is restored to his senses, and seated in his seat with his arm cut off and bleeding under Sindhu's sword.]

देखो, कितने खूबसूरत से उसे पता चला है, और वह सिंधु की तलवारों के नीचे अपनी भुजा कटी हुई और खून बहाते हुए अपने आसन पर खड़ा है।

43. [पद्मरागगिरिद्योतमिवर्द्धासृग्विमुञ्चति ।

हा हा धिक्कष्टमेतेन सिन्धुना खड्गधारया ॥ ४३ ॥

padmarāgagiridyotamivarddhāsṛgvimuñcati |hā hā dhikkaṣṭametena sindhunā khaḍgadhārayā || 43 ||

See him weltering in blood gushing out profusely from his body, like a rubicund stream issuing from a hill of rubies. Woe is me! and cursed be the sword of Sindhu that hath brought this misery on us.]

देखो, वह खून से लथपथ है, उसके शरीर से बहता हुआ खून, मानो मानिकों के पहाड़ से लाल रंग की धारा निकल रही हो। धिक्कार है मुझ पर! और देखिए सिंधु की तलवारों को, जो हम पर यह विपत्ति लायी है।

44. [जङ्घयोर्मे पतिश्छिन्नः क्रकचेनेव पादपः ।

हा हा हतास्मि दग्धास्मि मृतास्म्युपहतास्मि च ॥ ४४ ॥

jaṅghayorme patiśchinnaḥ krakaceneva pādapaḥ |hā hā hatāsmi dagdhāsmi mṛtāsmyupahatāsmi ca || 44 ||

It has severed his thighs as they dissever a tree with a saw, and has lopped off his legs like the stalks of trees.]

उसने अपने दांतों को ऐसे ही कट डाला है जैसे कि एरी से वृक्षों को चिपकाया जाता है, और उसने अपने दांतों को पेड़ों के जैसे ही काट डाला है।

45. [मृणाले इव पत्युर्मे लूने द्वे अपि जानुनी ।

इत्युक्त्वा सा तदालोक्य भर्तुर्भावभयातुरा ॥ ४५ ॥

mṛṇāle iva patyurme lūne dve api jānunī |ityuktvā sā tadālokya bharturbhāvabhayāturā || 45 ||

Ah! it is I that am so struck and wounded and killed by the enemy. I am dead and gone and burnt away with my husband's body.]

आह! मैं ही शत्रु मारी गई, घायल हुई और मारी गई। मैं मर गया, चला गया और मेरे पति के शरीर के साथ जल गया।

46. [लता परशुकृत्तेव मूर्च्छिता भुवि सापतत् ।

विदूरथोऽपि निर्जानुः प्रहरन्नेव विद्विषि ॥ ४६ ॥

latā paraśukṛtteva mūrcchitā bhuvi sāpatat |vidūratho'pi nirjānuḥ praharanneva vidviṣi || 46 ||

Saying so, she began to shudder with fear at the woeful sight of her husband's person, and fell insensible on the ground like a creeper cut off by an axe.]

ऐसा खुलासा उन्होंने अपने पति के शव का दुख देखने के बाद डर से कांपने लगी और बिजली से कटी हुई लता के समान मूर्छित जमीन पर गिर गए।

47. [पपात स्यन्दनस्याधश्छिन्नमूल इव द्रुमः ।

पतन्नेवैष सूतेन रथेनैवापवाहितः ॥ ४७ ॥

papāta syandanasyādhaśchinnamūla iva drumaḥ |patannevaiṣa sūtena rathenaivāpavāhitaḥ || 47 ||

Viduratha though thus mutilated and disabled, was rising to smite the enemy in his rage, when he fell down from his car like an uprooted tree, and was replaced there by his charioteer ready to make his retreat.]

हालाँकि विदूरथ इस प्रकार के क्षत-विक्षत और अयोग्य हो गए थे, फिर भी वे क्रोध में शत्रुओं पर प्रहार करने के लिए उठ रहे थे, तब वे वृक्ष की भाँति अपने रथ से नीचे गिर पड़े, और उनके स्थान पर उनके सारथी के पीछे के युवाओं के लिए तैयार हो गए।

48. [यदा तदाहतिं तस्य कण्ठेऽदात्सिन्धुरुद्धतः ।

अर्धविच्छिन्नकण्ठोऽसावनुयातोऽथ सिन्धुना ॥ ४८ ॥

yadā tadāhatiṃ tasya kaṇṭhe'dātsindhuruddhataḥ |

ardhavicchinnakaṇṭho'sāvanuyāto'tha sindhunā || 48 ||

At this instant, the savage Sindhu struck a sabre on his neck, and pursued the car in which the dying monarch was borne back to his tent.]

इस क्षण में, रथो सिंधु ने एक कृपाण मारा पर अपनी कृपाण रखी, और उस रथ का पीछा किया गया जिसमें मरते हुए राजा को उसके तम्बू में वापस ले जाया गया था।

49. [स्यन्दनेनाविशत्सद्म पद्मं रविकरो यथा ।

सरस्वत्याः प्रभावाढ्यं तत्प्रवेष्टुमसौ गृहम् ।

नाशकन्मशको मत्तो महाज्वालोदरं यथा ॥ ४९ ॥

syandanenāviśatsadma padmaṃ ravikaro yathā |sarasvatyāḥ prabhāvāḍhyaṃ tatpraveṣṭumasau gṛham |nāśakanmaśako matto mahājvālodaraṃ yathā || 49 ||

The body of Padma (alias Viduratha), was placed like a lotus in the presence of Sarasvati, shining with the splendour of the sun; but the elated Sindhu was kept from entering that abode, like a giddy fly from a flame.] 

पद्म (उर्फ विदूरथ) का शरीर सरस्वती के समरूप कमल के समान सूर्य की तेज से चमक रहा था; बूरा उद्योग सिंधु को उस धाम में प्रवेश करने से रोक दिया गया, जैसे कि ईंट-पत्थर से डर गई मक्खी को।

50. [खङ्गावकृत्तगलगर्तगलत्सवातरक्तच्छटाछुरितवस्त्रतनुत्रगात्रम् ।तत्याज तं भगवतीमभितो गृहान्तः सूतः प्रवेश्य मृतितल्पतले गतोऽरिः ॥ ५० ॥

khaṅgāvakṛttagalagartagalatsavātaraktacchaṭāchuritavastratanutragātram |

tatyāja taṃ bhagavatīmabhito gṛhāntaḥ sūtaḥ praveśya mṛtitalpatale gato'riḥ || 50 ||

The charioteer entered in the apartment, and placed the body in its death-bed, all mangled and besmeared with blood, exuding from the pores of the severed neck, in the presence of the goddess, from where the enemy returned to his camp. (Gloss). Here Padma fighting in the person of Viduratha, and falling bravely in the field, obtained his redemption by his death in the presence of the goddess; but the savage Sindhu, who slew his foiled foe in his retreat, proved a ruffian in his barbarous act, and could have no admittance into the presence of the goddess and to his future salvation.]

   सारथी ने कमरे में प्रवेश किया, और शरीर को उसकी मृत्यु-शैया पर रख दिया, पूरी तरह से क्षत-विक्षत और खून से सना हुआ, कटी हुई गर्दन के छिद्रों से बहता हुआ, देवी के दर्शन में, जहां से शत्रु अपने शिविर में लौट आए। ( व्याख्या ). यहां पद्म ने विदूरथ के रूप में युद्ध किया, और युद्ध में वीरता से गिर गया, देवी की उपस्थिति में उनकी मृत्यु से उनकी मुक्ति हो गई; लेकिन बैरी सिंधु, जिन्होंने अपने शत्रु को पीछे हटते हुए मार डाला, उनके बैरी कृत्य में एक बदमाश साबित हुआ, और देवी की उपस्थिति और भविष्य में उनके तत्वों में कोई प्रवेश नहीं हो सका।
